Hey guys, I did a search for trips to Florida and I didn't find anything. If you know of any other thread just point me in the right direction. SOOOOO! Next March the family is going on vacation for a week to Marco Island in Florida. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of doing any fishing out of there? We are looking for just the two of us for a day. Any recommendations or any input would be great. I am just started looking in to it now as we just booked the house this week.

Thanks,

I don't know Marco Island, or about the March timeframe. But I did go there this last weekend and the fishing was good, damn good. Chased tarpon for a couple of days and ended up catching one at right around 100 lbs according to the guide, and did a day of deep water fishing where we busted the chops of the king mackerel and bonita while also catching a couple of sandbar sharks (7+ ft) and a barracuda. My frigging arms still hurt.

Note, we fished Tarpon out of Fort Myers, and drove across the state to fish the deeper water out of Fort Lauderdale.

I was just in the Orlando area. I went out on a party fishing boat. $160 for the boy and I. It included breakfast and lunch. They also sold beer pretty cheap. We went out about 20 miles and jigged in 100+ ft of water. We cought some mangrove snapper and little junk fish. 2 Cobia were boated. I'd go that route again as I thought you got much more for your money. Two years ago we rented a pontoon just north of where your going. We caught fish and got some cool interaction from some dolphins.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the tarpon would be shallow that far south that time of year.

I've gone out of Clearwater and Pine island SW of fort myers. Any guide is going to be around $300-$600 for the two people, more for certain types of fish. Offshore can be more since you'll need to pay for a full day. Tipping is customary. You can also usually find a couple who want to split a trip and hop on with them, save a little cash. You could also rent gear and shore fish.
