I did not realize Gore flat out bought/forced out Jason from Sitka. Back when Sitka first really got in on the scene, I was working in the industry. There was a trip for writer types to visit the Gore facility in Maryland and do some waterfowl hunting. It was a fascinating story and facility (Guywhofishes would get a kick out of it) that I'd encourage anyone to visit if given a chance.

At the time, their Optifade camo system was my main focus. Sitka was one of a very few companies to have access to this, and I understood it was because of a partnership they had (as well as Sitka using Gore-Tex in their clothing). The science behind OptiFade was equally interesting, as it was designed by a former military expert, as well as by understanding how came perceive colors, textures and movement.

I'm not sure where I was going with this. I guess I had no idea that Sitka and Kuiu were so intrinsically linked.

Very sad news. I can't imagine what it would be like to go through something like this with a spouse. Absolutely heartbreaking. I can only hope he left something behind so they're taken care of.

I don't know if there is a silver lining that will satisfy his family. You never know the demons another person has.

The amazing part to me was his drive. Some folks will be successful no matter what they do. Professional football player, hard enough. Top 1% of the 1% of talent there. Then goes on to start two top of the line companies in the industry.

Real good guy who was devoted to the industry and doing things right.
If you had a question about his gear, simple email and he answered every one himself.
Hard to understand suicide from the outside looking in.
