If it's Pelican Lake in Ottertail County, MN they do not have burbot but they do have bowfin. They do look a bit similar....the tail is different and burbot have more spots.

You can tell it's a bowfin by the way it is.

Yep - it's a bowfin. Have caught many while fishing for bass pitching plastic worms. They are a mean fighting fish when they smash a plastic.
