I just invested in a bunch of these of various sizes and flavors (on sale at Scheels) after having mucho success on several occasions this year.

berkley-gafhpmi21-2-gulp-alive-2-1-2-minnow-38.jpg

Most of the success involved pitching on 1/8 or 3/16 jigs for panfish and eyes. Oh, and my mom caught a bunch of eyes lindy-rigging them.

I had a single jar sitting in my boat for years but didn't "get after them" seriously until this year.

Anyone else like them and use them in other ways other than pitching?

Have a jar and use them quite often on some little lakes. Had two jars earlier this year up until is spilled everywhere in my cubby. still working on that stink.

Oh man - ha ha ha!

Mine has sat out, bleaching in the sun, sitting in my transom drain area for two-three years for that exact reason! Those jars are NOT going anywhere inside a compartment or on carpet.

Every single package of Gulp has dried out, and the jars always leak and spill.

For whatever reason, I think Powerbait is just as effective with zero mess.

Packaging definitely sucks, but have had damn good luck with them. Even out fished live bait on occasion. I use the pearl colored ones.

I use my gulp often. pitching jigs is the only way I use them. i generally still have minnows with though. still haunted by the mouse river one spring when i didn't have minnows and the guy next to me did, literally 10 ft away and he was catching fish after fish and think i ended with 2.

I agree with Duckslayer100, Powerbait is just as effective as Gulp and has a few strong selling points over Gulp. First Powerbait won't leak and make the boat stink & second you can leave it on your jig for a few days and its just like the day you put it on. Where with gulp if you leave it out of the water for more than a few hours on your jig you will be cutting that jig off and tying a new one on.

I have seen them work in my boat. Short story. A few years ago on a cold Labor Day weekend son-in-law and I were parked on a reef. Jigging 1/4 oz lead colored banana jigs. I had partially dead minnows he had the same stuff as in your picture. He pulled 9 nice walleyes out before I had one. ;:;banghead Call me old, dumb and stubborn.

there is one reason I feel they are superior - incredible durability

I use them in semi-snaggy places with high lb test where I can straighten hooks to get my jig back

I can set the hook with abandon (rip jigging in a sense) on every tick, weed, bump - and the bait stays put - no lost twisty tails - I can just keep pitching and pitching and pitching - this usually means a couple more fish in the well

I also like the lean mean split-tail no-waggle tail profile for deeper presentations

I really dislike other gulb I've tried with twister tails or anything but this little snake tongue back end

p.s. when it comes to twister tails about all I use IS Powerbait and/or YUM

Gulp Alive is great stuff. Just don't leave the container out in the sun in high heat. It takes on a sickeningly soft consistency and can't be resuscitated back to it's original state. I don't know why but the feel of a heat stressed Gulp Alive minnow grosses me out to no end.

I used to use gulp all the time, but for the reasons Duckslayer and JB mentioned, not as much anymore. I still have some, but tend to buy the bagged gulp rather than the containers. I would say it's about the same effectiveness as powerbait or walleye assassins.

strange - mine got soft and nasty in the sun at the tailrace recently but firmed up back to normal immediately upon going into the 55 degree water

I was hoping that would be the case. But I was down on Oahe in warmer water. When I get home tonight I'll do the icebucket challenge with the rest of the tub and see if they spring back to life

The only time I have knocked them out with these is jigging them in the Missouri. stays on the hook very well. Don't know why but seems like they excel in current situations

Exactly, when they start making gulp containers that dont leak i would be happy to start using them again.

I've never had a leak/spill in that jar and I opened it when I first got it years ago. I cut a hole in the middle of the white tamper proof seal thingy and left it intact around the rim to function as a gasket. Has worked great. Not so for the little baby gulp jars for panfish - they seem to almost always leak no matter what I do. I store all them upright in a plano box at the bottom of a compartment to capture any leakage.

But the bigger jar of minnows, along with all the new ones, are staying right there in the splash well just in case. I don't want to suffer a stinkymike incident.
