so, we camp on relatives land at dl and fish in the summer... sometimes when it gets late and the bugs are hungry we take our fish back to camp to clean, then grind the guts the next morning on the way back out...

we have left camp a few times with more than our limit of guts from having extra people with us the previous day... is it legal for 2 people to haul 5 limits worth of guts???

- - - Updated - - -

we take no meat home with us, just use it for fish fry and leave the rest...

^^^^^ Yep, if your grinding guts for 5 limits, you should have 5 people there. Would be easier to explain it to the warden should he happen to be around and ask any questions.

that's what i thought guy... it has kinda bugged me the hand full of times i've done it, and the poaching thread made me think of it...

at what point does garbage revert back to game or fish??? we would be fine leaving it in the yard for the garbage man, but yeesh...

I could see them fish also being counted as your limit for that day also if you are transporting them. How would a warden know that they are not from that day and you are grind the evidence to head back out and double dip. Just a theory.

I wonder though.... what about garbage men transporting garbage containing hundreds of carcasses from resorts, etc.?

So my garbage comes on Tuesdays, if I were were to fish and catch my limit every day for five days and put in my garbage and let's say warden comes on the sixth day I'd be over my limit? I would think some common sense would have to come into play somewhere. But then again wardens can be douche bags.

That is one part of our regulations that I like. There is no limit on your personal residence.

first thing i thought of with the whole what's garbage angle is the 16 year old taking out a garbage sack full of beer cans from the folks' party the night b4... is it a minor with residual booze, or garbage???

not saying it's the same, but the same laws may apply...

If fish guts are over a day old you can tell unless they were frozen or you have a real good gag reflex and no sence of smell.

I've been a fly fisherman most of my life and have no idea what grinding guts is. Would one of you guys tell me what that is and why you do it?

If its illegal to possess more than your limits worth of fish carcasses on public land, what happens to people at the cleaning station where the carcasses are in a garbage bin next to you and warden pulls up? How do you explain your close proximity to 200 walleye heads? Why not just take a shovel along and bury them after cleaning? Good fertilizer for the trees/grass in the area... But I suppose thats illegal also in our nanny state!

I used to put the guts in the garden years ago, not sure it ever helped but was told it would.

would a garden with a summers worth of fish guts be legal? Some seasons there might have been 100 filleted carcasses in the garden.

burying is amazingly effective way of dealing with carcasses - no wonder it's been such a timeless approach
