kick in my door and this is a good way to get shot

https://www.kxnet.com/video/house-bill-1299-allowing-a-person-to-make-citizens-arrest/10404855/

House Bill 1299, if passed, would allow a private person to break into a building to make a citizen’s arrest under certain conditions.

This can only be done if a felony has been committed in their presence, the person attempting the arrest has been denied entry after announcing their purpose, or if the private person reasonably believes that someone inside the building is at risk of a serious injury or death.

“I can knock on the door, I can say I’m here to arrest you for stealing my car and then if they don’t open the door I can kick it in and walk in to get them,” Representative Ben Koppelman said.

As of right now, a private person can arrest another for a public offense committed or attempted in the arresting person’s presence.

It happens all the time around here, except for the arrest part.

Just what we need is all the Karens out there taking the law into their own hands.

Bad idea, with serious consequences.

I also watched an advertisement this morning on the tele about reporting to the feds people you believe might be making money behind the tax mans back. Sort of a liberal "report your neighbors if they are out and about without masks on"

Sad times for sure.

Yeah, I don't think this is a good idea. That and I don't think I would go kick someone's door down not knowing what's on the others side. I also think if a person had a really good reason such as some guy in the same apartment building taking your kid or something law enforcement wouldn't do much if this wasn't a law. I for surely wouldn't break somebody's door down to arrest them if they stole my car.

Somebody needs to knock on Ben Koppelma’s door , hopefully a big scraggly greasy biker and say “ I’m here to arrest you”. What do you think the chances are he would open the door ?
