Ok, this is my last post on this. Yes it was. It's not a debate. It's not an opinion. There's no argument. The first shot was both lungs. It's a fact, non debatable.

And the shot in the heart was done from about 7 feet away when we finally got to the bull.

I wasn't there, didn't see it, so I have no reason/standing to challenge what you've stated regarding 1st-shot being double-lung. My resulting questions aren't to trap you w/some sort of "Ah-Ha! moment", merely to try and understand what occurred.

What did the wound channel look like? Was there a non-expanded 30Cal hole “penciled” through both lungs? I’m wondering if the projectile caught a cattail or 2 in the way to the Moose, induced some yaw on the projectile that greatly inhibited/precluded expansion? The only thing that makes sense to me regarding a Moose living 30Min+ with holes in both lungs is that they weren’t big holes, pointing towards little/no expansion. I’m going to make the leap that they weren’t FMJ nor HPBT “Match” projectiles.

Any chance the shooter or butcher-shop found the projectile in the carcass/meat while working him over?

IMO it was penciled.

My recall is:

Moose was laying on projectile's entry side with a dime-ish(?) sized hole that was venting steam vertically with each breath. Shot placement looked pretty good.

This was 30 minutes into the process and after the "kill" shot.

Can't imagine recovering that projectile in the catttails.

That might help explain things. I'm not saying it makes sense that he was still kicking 30 min later. I obviously didn't think he was going to be alive still, because if he was a bit less hurt I would have been in some big trouble.

He said the bullets were 180g hornady interlock.

That last post of mine came out a bit spicier than I meant for. I just told everyone what happened. It doesn't change anything about the whole situation if it was 2 lungs or one or whatever, but for someone to say there's no way what I said was true implies that I am either uncredible or a liar, and I take that personally.

In my simple brain I see the flattened projectile on the right "knife-edging" through flesh/organs/bone with little/no spin. You get a hole, but, you don't get that "Vortex" creating a large and very traumatic secondary wound-channel.

So, again, spitballing here: Bullet hits a cattail or two and has some yaw and is spinning off-axis when it impacts the moose. The bullet clears the hide and clips a rip on the way in that flattens it and partially or totally impedes rotation and the projectile "knife-edges" through moose-parts until it runs out of energy and is obviously stopped inside the carcass.

If the projectile on the left is shot #1, I got nothing, no theory at all regarding how a text-book expanded projectile didn't cause enough trauma to kill that moose in well under 1Min.

So maybe the moose, with crappy eyesight and meese rivals nearby, gets hit with non-fatal shot, then lays down out of instinct to figure out WTH is wrong and why it hurts.

Once hunters enter cattails he hears them but he feels trapped, so he stays down. The gets up only after he figures he's been discovered.

Second shot is fatal with more normal kill time.
