I'm a big fan of 1,000 yd world champ shooter Erik Cortina's Youtube channel and the rifle challenges he puts on at his property in Texas. This recent episode is pretty darn cool, make sure to watch till the end!

He must only have a 500 range but still good stuff and nice vapor trails. My shootin days are about over but I'd like to record 1000 yard vapor trails . Some of you guys might think I'm kidding but you can train yourself to follow through and see vapor trails and 22 bullets during the shots . I've told people about it and what to watch for while shooting but they can't see it. Even some spotters can't see it unless conditions are just right. It must be an acquired trait.

600yd. Don’t recall if it’s my 270/140 TSX @ 3030fps or buddy’s 6.5Creed 143’s @ 2700?

Crazy how the the rams can be hard to knock off the rails. The first match of the year is the worst, one shooter can hit the ram dead center and not drop it and the next sorry sap can hit the rail and it will drop. They should oil the rails before every match.

Could that be achieved/exceeded with a 7Rem?
Possibly, just have to look up capacity of each. Barnsness has gone through the rudimentary 4:1 ratio of capacity vs. velocity many time in ‘Campfire and it’s also in at least 1 of his “Gun Gack” books. Basically whatever percentage you add in capacity, you’ll add 25% of that to velocity. So, if you add 10% more capacity you’ll reap ~2.5% more velocity.

If you have a loaded round that provides 3000fps and you add 10% more powder capacity with a modified or new case, and the pressure is constant between the 2 rounds, you’re new velocity will be roughly 3075FPS, or a 2.5% gain over 3K FPS. It’s a “rule of thumb” to get you in the ball park, but a law of physics.

I did 7WSM because @ the time, the 162A-Max was the best balance of BC/Velocity I could piece together and I had a short single shot action to build on. The 7 has the most capacity if the WSM’s due to the shoulder being further forward to preclude the 7 from being chambered in a 270WSM rifle. Just like the 280rem/270Win.

Wow. I still think you're wasting talent.
