Ion auger, what a piece of sh!t!

The blade depth is also adjustable. Doesn’t state anything about that depth.
Why did they make any of it adjustable anyway?

I just aligned everything as pictured using a side view as shown.

Top of the tip should be flush with bottom of the blades - and centered side-to-side based on the top edge of the tip.

I suspect perfect alignment isn't critical since these chew they're way through instead of shave.

I made sure the two blades were on the same plane (using a straight edge before installing the point) - then installed the point.

Was it the Gator that had plastic gears ? I remember someone here , @Lunk was it you ? Someone had one of the first ones and the plastic gears failed. Iv'e saw some reasonable IONs for sale but shied away because I didn't know. I might snag one if the gears and rest of it are dependable.

That's about what I did when I replaced mine, but sure didn't cut like it did when it was new. Maybe poor pitch on the blades. I am gonna swap them out with the other new set I got. Shouldn't have to bear down on it with most of your weight to cut.

So hear how great the Ion augers are, so I want one. Dad bought one a little over a year ago no real problems. Did find out the blades don't like dirty ice, no big deal I'll keep my Jiffy for the big lake. Well I bought an Ion thinking I have a great auger for panfish on smaller lakes. I can't get more then 10 to 15 holes out of the blades. This thing is junk, blades run 40 a set. This must be why they changed the flighting. Not happy with Ion and it ruined its second weekend chasing bluegills. Jiffy gets fresh fuel tomorrow as I can't afford anymore blades for that green piece of sh!t!

Anyone else having issues with blades?

No issues with the one I purchased probably drilled 200 holes going on 3 year and battery stayed charged all season long very happy with mine
