I was up late reading the "not being considered" list. Funny stuff.

The names on the "being considered" list are all non-starters.

What makes me nervous is that the administration at UND does not give two squirts of piss about the alumni or our great ND history. They want this issue over ASAP and don't care if we are the Fighting Sioux, the 7th Calvary or the purple nurples. Not a one of them is from ND or attended UND, and not a one of them is thinking about the long term implications of this journey they have taken us on. President Kelly will make a mess of this and stick us with a horse-chit nickname (of his choosing) and then leave for another job at UC Berkley where he can be with his socialist buddies. He will embarrass every ND citizen.

I agree that the administration is not "Pro-UND" or alumni. But the committee tasked with making the recommendation sure is. I put a great deal of trust in the decision making ability and UND loyalties of Karl Goehring. He is a very smart and rational person. He won't allow a recommendation that he feels will hurt UND.

I certainly trust the committee and Karl. However, I believe the final decision lies with comrade Kelly.

Not true as of right now. The committee will submit 3 names to Kelley that will go forward to a public vote. If Kelley is a smart man, he will not want to be saddled with making the actual decision.

I don't think we would want a nickname that is used by one of our conference mates. Whatever is selected needs at the bare minimum to be unique within our conferences.

No new nickname will fill the void of one of the best in sports. In this day and age, abstract, animal, or weather will be the road they head down. I wouldn't mind something that reflects the cold, but I haven't heard anything that has any ring to it or passes the goofy test. I think Kelly will pick Blizzard and run for the coast.
