I finally decided to buy an AR this year, been thinking about it for some time. Here is what I am looking for, something without fixed sights, I will be putting a nice scope on, 20-24" barrrel, accuracy is a must. Caliber is not really important, just want something that I can shoot all around from coyotes on up to deer. Price is not really an issue. What brands have you guys seen that are some of the best? Thanks.

I'd look at JP Enterprises. I built one with most of their parts and the things is a tack driver. The have complete rifles for sale also.

Forgot to mention, the scope brand I am thinking is Nightforce...something I can get to shoot out to 6-700 yds fairly accurately.

Custom build one for superb accuracy. Im a shilen barrel fan myself. D-tec solutions out of bemidgi mn has done 3 barrels for me. You must be thinking AR-10 if you want deer killing power and range.

Maybe better hurry up, hard to say what the Democrats are going to try and pull in January

We're safe for another two years. They can try and pull whatever they want. Still needs to pass the senate and get signed by Donnie.

I had two ready to order before the 2016 election. I'll probably do the same thing in 2020.

6.5 Grendel or 224 Valkyrie would by my caliber choice and agree with the previous posts about building instead of buy. AR's are basically Legos for adults and you will be wanting to change out parts and make upgrades right away and will eventually end up with a whole drawer full of take off parts

AR-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor would suit your needs well.(on my wish list). 224 valkyrie would be a fun predator caliber to small for my liking to shoot deer with. Buy quality components or from a quality brand and with a nightforce scope you should be able to shoot 700 yards with enough trigger time

I’d do a PWS in .308 but that’s just consulting my own wishlist.

Same opinion on the grendel. Good deer caliber but ballistically inferior to many other cartridges out there.

My vote AR-10 in whatever caliber gets your blood to tingle.

Not where I'd like to be
I also vote to build. That way you get all the stuff you want right away. If money really is no object, I'd go AR-10 frame with a 6mm Creedmoor barrel from Proof Research. A ~100 grain projectile at ~3,000 FPS is no joke.

I also say build your own. So many options.

Myself, I'd like a piston driven, side charged ar15. Probably build one in .223, maybe one in 6.5 grendel but the grendel would probably be DI as it might be more accurate.

From personal experience, heavy long barrel AR’s never get shot so my advice is buy/build a (relatively) cheaper 223 16” AR that’s fun to shoot and put whatever optics you want on it and have it be the truck gun. You’ll shoot it way more. Then buy/have built a good bolt gun in whatever caliber you want for banging long range consistently.

For a "buy once cry once" AR I'd buy this:

https://www.eurooptic.com/CA10153-1235254-Christensen-Arms-Carbon-Fiber-Wrapped-223-Wy.aspx

Put a relatively lightweight scope on it that maxes out between 10x-12x and carry it all the time.

It's hard to move to the AR-10 platform and keep the overall weight below 10#.

For a "do-all" coyotes-deer rifle I'd buy a Barrett Fieldcraft in anything that suits your fancy from 6Creed, 243, 6.5Creed, 7-08, or 308, scope it well with again something that maxes out @ 10x-12x and never look back.

Just remember that AR-10 parts are not as interchangeable across manufactures as the AR-15 platform is.

1. Figure out the smallest possible caliber you’re willing to hunt deer with. A 223 for regular deer hunting, if not from very close ranges, will fill you with regret. Think 224 Val, 6.5 Grendel, 6mm Creedmoor or 6.5 Creedmoor.
2. Build it yourself.
3. Build it yourself.
4. Build it yourself.
5. It will be heavy. I have a .308 with a 16” fluted barrel that I keep as light as possible for hunting and potential Canadian invasion. It weighs over 10 lbs with a 10rd magazine and 1-6x scope. That’s before I add the silencer.
6. Shooting an autoloader accurately requires different/more skill than using a bolt gun accurately. Don’t be too quick to blame the gun if it doesn’t shoot bug holes the first time out.

I would strongly consider 224 Val in order to keep it a “small frame” model and for parts interchangeability.

Let me know if you need suggestions for parts or build ideas.

I’d do a PWS in .308 but that’s just consulting my own wishlist.

Having owned a couple PWS 308 rifles, I prefer POF P308. But PWS rifles are good.

if you are looking for accuracy, no one builds a better upper than White Oak Armament. He builds the uppers for competitive shooting, so i'm sure they'd be as good or better than anyone else. just depends on what caliber you want though, as his are pretty limited.

My custom AR is an armalite target complete lower. For an upper I went a less expensive route and ordered a 20" 1:8 twist .223 from CBC industries.

My standard AR is a rock river mid length A2. I plan on putting another upper on it someday.
