I know it is not possible in most places but you should try going through 6-10 dozen suckers per week at a buck each.

you should install a tank and go wholesale

For sure!

I would imagine you must catch a lot of goldeye for use as well Captainbrad?

In the fall when we fish suckers for musky we were paying $11 each, but they're 16-20 inch fish.

For walleye fishing in the spring we catch all our own shiners which is nice. Not only are they free, but they're real big and they come right from the waters we're fishing. My uncle and father live on the lake full-time, so they use a lot of them up, but we estimated we had 100 dozen this year. They start dying off pretty fast this time of year, however, so soon we'll be using leaches and worms for the rest of the summer.

I have done that actually. I am equipped with more tank space than many bait shops if I set it all up. Wholesale suckers are not as cheap as one may think. Sometimes the bait needs or delivery times don't jive with the schedule so you still end up at the bait shop.

if you are going through that much bait then business must be good!

you sound like a hot dog vendor bitching about how many wieners he's having to buy from his wholesale meat supplier :;:

No bitching here about the bait bill. When the bait bill is high the cats are biting and business is good. I was just pointing out out the price difference vs $3 or $4 per scoop.

Problem I've had in the state is finding big minnows w/o catching my own... 6 mile usually has graded but those still are not that big... I want a 3-4 inch minnow don't care if I have to pay a little extra for some fatties
