That's a good price, I've never been around a buddy , Are they quiet without the fan or do they have a little hiss or noise to them and can you lay them on their back and cook on them or do they have a tilt switch ? A hot meal is part of the fun of ice fishing.

They are pretty quiet and do have tip over protection (tilt switch). For cooking that Hotrack looks pretty slick.

I just have a single hose that runs to one side, so do 2 other guys I know. I have never seen one that needs to be connected to both sides at once. Picked up the hose at fleet farm if I remember correctly.

I just attach mine to the one side as well. I will look tonite what connector it is. That being said, I don't use the 20# all that often. Some people like visiting Starbucks daily for their $5-$6 coffee, I prefer to spend my money on little green propane bottles.Thumbs Up

The correct hose is the one with the quick connect coupler end. It doesn't screw in, it slides and snaps in a lot like an air hose coupler.

I like my buddy but since I went to the clam bigfoot I might need the big buddy. Little guy just doesn't cut it when the cold wind blows.

Please elaborate…as this will be my set up this year…just graduated to a Clam bigfoot XL and I have the single tank buddy heater…in the past I have never ran it on high…will this need to be the case in calm now? Probably should test it this weekend

for me it was little green tank management hassles.

Rusty ones, half full ones, full ones, having to grab them all and test them (not just looking into a compartment and seeing one or two - you can't trust that they are full)

I prefer them for size/weight but man I hated managing them with multiple shelters, etc.

That's why I bought a 10 pounder (two of them actually)

Hmmmm,
So are you supposed to use a regulator off your 20lb tank? Just got a Big Buddy used it yesterday first time, just used the hose off my sunflower burner. Was on a website last night piecing together parts for quick disconnect hose. Cant believe the male fitting is already built in to it.
Side note I kinda missed the smell of burning nylon on the old burner. haha

I run a Hunting Buddy heater with an 11lb tank and wouldn't run anything else in my JM Thermal flip over. Has kept us warm with no issues. I don't run a regulator off the tank, just the filter and leave the tank sit outside with the hose run under the tarp at set up. I went with the hunting buddy because it puts out more heat the regular buddy heater and isn't as bulky as the big buddy. My buddy has the same house and started with the big buddy before I got my rig. He very seldom runs more than one burner which is why I decided to go with the hunting buddy.

They are a lot quieter and no more headaches, burnt clothes or lines or tarps. Might have to check out that cooker attachment.

They are two different heaters. the mr. heater is a little smaller, works great for my buddy that has a one man thermal.
Lunker yes my Big Buddy has the 2 tank compartments and I just run my hose to one side, I don't have the quick disconnect, I use a 20# and just unscrew it from the tank. Tank sits outside and run hose under flip edge as stated above.

There is a portable buddy, hunting buddy, big buddy. The big buddy seems to be on sale for $99 most places right now, i'm not sure if they are updating the model or what. Last week at Menards it was $99 plus 11% off - so $88. I should have bought one but don't really have a use. The portable buddy is plenty for me in my Otter Cabin, even this past weekend in -25 wind chill.

No they aren't the same. Big buddy can accept a 1lb propane bottle on both sides. Mr. Heater just one. 9000 BTU versus 18,000.

I have a Buddy Hitter (standard size, not the Big Buddy) and run a 20-pound propane tank off it. I'm with Guy in that I hated messing with those little green nightmares. Never use all the propane in a bottle it seems, or they last two hours on high when it's 30-below out and you have to struggle to take that frosted bottle off and put a new one on before hypothermia sets in.

I've contemplated getting an 11-pound tank, but I have five 20-pounders in my garage so we almost always have an extra full one lying around.
