So my buddy and his cousin caught this on Audubon the other day....

He did release it back in the water. How did he catch it you asked....trolling dare devils. Yeah I know, in his defense they don't fish very often. They did however catch a few smallies and a 20 inch walleye. Its not weird if it works.

Yes I am aware that I spelled that wrong....LOL

At first glance Id say Nice hybrid. 36"??

However, the forked tail and hybrid markings not continuing into the face is throwing me off - were pure strains ever stocked in Audubon or perhaps came from one of the downstream lakes??

I don't know anything about them other than I caught a small one with that pattern while ice fishing and didn't notice the difference till a buddy told me it was a tiger musky, It was too late to release it so I ate it , Tasted just like northern .

That certainly doesn't appear to be a pure-strain. Tiger perhaps? Would make sense. I can't think of the last time I heard NDG&F stocking pure-strain skis in Nodak.

I believe Audubon did receive some pure stain musky this year or last year. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will correct me. but they would not be this size by now. Id say nice Tiger

Yes, I don't think fish can migrate from canal lakes back to Audubon

Pickle muskie jokes just dont get old to me ..hahaha:)

Out of due respect for Musky maniac I have quit joining in the pickled musky joke fun but I still get a chuckle out of them. My post was a true story, It happened about 35 years ago at metigoshe , First and last musky I have ever caught or saw caught.

Have caught two muskys on Audabon last year. Both caught on spinners and minnows in early spring. Also caught a musky on Sak this summer. Must have come thru from Audabon when water was released back into big lake in fall. Have heard of several others caught also on Sak.

My brother caught one of these just last month on Audubon, as well. The markings, as well as the mouth & jaw will help distinguish the difference. Tiger muskies are in the lake and would easily become the size of fish in the photo. I believe the one we netted from his line would've been similar in size. We also released it back to the water.

They introduced pure strain a couple decades ago and they all seemed to disappear. Hope the current batch thrives and establishes a foothold.

Thats a not all that rare Audobon tiger at this point. Know a couple guys who have targeted them a couple times this summer and the top end fish are getting fairly big at this point. As for transfer in the canal up till they blocked the west end of west park fish went back and forth all the time. That's why you can catch drum in there and have seen big schools of either Cisco or white fish well near the land slides up the canal from west park.

If it was a hammer handle then it probably was a pike if not then you unknowingly broke the law.
