I think it might kind of depend where you fish. I went Lakemaster/Humminbird because of Oahe in ND.

I believe the newest Lakemaster has Sak at 1850 which is pretty much max elevation.

The Oahe elevation is really high as well on the lakemaster. In fact its about exactly 10 feet higher than current elevation.

^ thanks

I could go balls deep and fully convert to bird, but I think I'll be thrifty, and pick up a bird gps unit, maybe a helix 7. Just add it to the dash along with the others.

For lake sak the lake master is going to be the best unless you were lucky enough to buy a great plains mapping chip which is the best you can get for lowrance units. And if anyone has a great plains mapping card they want to sell, let me know I want it!

lake master is the only reason I really like my humminbird... navionics is one reason I don't like lowrance... on sakakawea lake master is the only way to go

If you have navionics compatible electronics I would recommend going with navionics. Reason for this is the new sonar chart live that came out from navionics. The last couple seasons I have been using insight genesis making my own maps but last fall I converted over to navionics because of the sonar chart live thru the navionics app but now this year you will be able to do it without having to use the phone app. The ability to create custom maps with 1ft contours and bottom composition has proven to be an invaluable tool. You will also see a big improvement this year for lake Sakakawea maping. Navionics is putting together a good sized team to go out and log sonar.

I agree with the part about making your own maps and the good quality, but I don't agree with the insight Genesis part. I couldn't get past the part where you pay $100/year to go out and log with time and fuel to turn your logs over to someone else or to make them public.

The new way of mapping with the autochart live and sonar chart live is going to be a great way for anglers to map there favorite areas in high detail while being user friendly.

Now lowrance needs a depth offset! If there is one thing we all know about sakakawea is changing elevation.

Or humminird maps already have 1' increments and the ability to offset... the $50 navionics app is just as much garbage as their chips except I can look for stuff while at work

If you fish sak and can use Lake master do it... navionics is shit if you fish less than 20 fow. Lake master is without a doubt the best. I've used both and will never go back to navionics

I picked up a Helix unit and a lakemaster chip. Going to run it right above my HDS7 that I use for GPS only (with Navionics). Figure that should cover me 99% of the time.

I run a 12" bird above my 10" lorance , run the bird for Lakemaster and side view, run the lorance for standard sonar and down scan.

Rusty,

$50 Navionics app? It's $14.99 for the US and Canada, $9.99 if you want just the US. Then it's a $5/year subscription for the Navionics+ features that allow SonarChart Live, Depth Shading, Water Level Adjustment, and the ability to save waypoints and trails. So if my math is correct you can use the app(US & Canada) for 7 years with a subscription each year before you reach $50. $7 a year... Not a bad deal.

If you run Lowrance, Navionics is really your only option. Early Lakemaster maps didn't hold a candle to Navionics, but in the past 4-5 years they found data that has them ahead of Navionics. Navionics also has freshest data so there will be updates coming all the time. I have been uploading all my sonar for the past 2 years so its getting much better quickly. If you want to see how check out their web app on their website, they will show you the most up to date stuff they have. Just make sure to select the sonar charts rather than Navionics. Another issue I see is that people often to forget to display the Sonarcharts on their Lowrance units. It defaults to show just the Navionics base maps.

Now that Navionics and Lowrance have allowed SonarChart Live on your Gen3 units you can create your own maps so that will be fun to play with!
