Explain why you think UND fans ”are having a complete meltdown”? NDSU will never win another title. UND will have a clearer path to a title (not to say they will win one but a better chance with SU out of the mix). UND will likely be able to get recruits that would have gone to SU hoping to win a championship. I’m missing how this would cause UND fans to be unhappy. I will miss the rivalry if they are not able to play each other again.

On siouxsports.com fighten sue fans are saying NDSU is moving up to avoid playing UND and out of jealousy of their actual NCAA division 1 championships....it's HILARIOUS reading.
you got the link to the posts, I wouldn't mind reading some good comedy later

I also agree this move should be a positive for the UND program but will also miss the rivalry and hope they can still play once in a while. NDSU fans have always had an inferiority complex when it comes to UND and I expect that to continue, regardless. Good luck in your new conference.

Just listen to them or go read their fan board. They are already trying to see how they can fight this or stop it from happening. Same shit when NDSU moved to FCS first. Leaders lead followers fall behind. NDSU has 10 FCS championships what would another one accomplish? UND couldn't win a D2 title until NDSU left so sure it opens the door for UND. Enjoy the recruiting wins.

And NDSU fans say the same about UND fans.

Fan boards are usually the people who have too much time on their hands and try to say ridiculous things to get people riled up, I wouldn't say what you see on there is representative of the whole fan base.
As a UND guy, I do agree that it's all a bit confusing since on the surface what is left of the Mountain West isn't much better than the better half of the MVFC and that's a lot of money to spend to play in a very mediocre FBS conference. I'm guessing it is more to do with the direction FCS is going and I would bet that in 5-10 years most of the better teams in the MVFC will have moved up, so NDSU is getting a jump on it. The mid-level FBS teams are probably going to split from the big boys eventually.

Yep and the price is only going to increase like everything else. If there even is a pathway to a higher level in the future. There's been rumors of a split for years and you best have a seat at the table when it happens. FCS is now D3 in reality.

By all means then, congrats on your 10 D3 championships..........................

You do realize that the better part of the state population roots for both schools because they both are very good institutions and offer many things the other doesn't. Although competing in some ways, yes, but complimentary to each other more so.

It's guys that argue like NDsportman that turns off all others from even wanting to discuss the situation. Can't just talk about the merits of NDSU without talking shots at UND. Amazing how people let something like that live in the head rent free for so long.

I for one think NDSU needed a change. Games were boring, fan base wasn't engaged, hell even winning a championship had lost it's luster. Not sure I had the solution, but what I don't like with this move is the cost, the probation period (which is dumb to start with if your truely "moving up a division" why worry about it), and the teams that would've been fun to see NDSU play are all leaving and heading to the Pac-12. Will this be a good step, time will tell. What I hope it doesn't is turn into is medeocrity within that division with no true division rivals to NDSU or a future tuition cost driver for NDSU students. There was always good rivalrys with the SD & MT schools and now in state with UND. IDK, but from the outside looking in, playing the New Mexico Lobo's doesn't exactly screem yearly rivelry that excits the fan base like playing a neighboring state or community.

As stated above I support both. I went to UND, my wife went to NDSU, my older son went to NDSU and my younger son is a senior at UND. I must not read the right boards or listen to the right people (or wrong people) as I have not heard any UND people “melting down” about NDSU moving. I hope it works out for them.
