30 miles by 30 miles is 90 square miles so that's a pretty big fire!! You'd think if a mostly grass or prairie area you'd be able to save a lot of farms but IDK?

It's been forever since any measurable amount of moisture here in the sandhills . The county roads are not like in S.D. or N.D. ,they are far and few between, can't drive heavy trucks in the hills with out getting stuck, the sand is more like sand blasting sand , fine as sugar 60-70 mph wids didn't help

I'm guessing tall stubble and pasture. The downfall of no till , They should at least strip farm it or do some tillage for fire control.

This time of year there are few air resources on contract. Tankers would not have helped on the windy days but the calmer days they could have helped tie in some lines and slowed things down in thinner fuels. It's going to be a bad fire season I'm afraid.

Only 18% contained they said on the news this Am. Prayers for the safety of the farmers in the area, but they've had plenty of warning so shouldn't be loss of life. It's the shits for the livestock.
