At first it was nice not having to mow the lawn, now I'm dumping water on it just trying to keep it alive.

That ain't no shit! Drove through a hell of a dust storm this morning since most of the crops are having trouble sprouting and my yard is all but dormant save for the damn quack grass. Hasn't been much for any real precipitation at my place since our last blizzard.

sprinklers don't even work thanks to the damn wind. But we're not the only state experiencing this crap. Florida is in the middle of one their worst droughts in 20 years, and all along the east coast, no one can get their boats out due to the winds.

My bet is that the wet cycle is ending. Who remembers the drought of the 1980s?

Despite the governments best effort to screw it up, the farm economy is typically healed by mother nature. I sure hope it's not, but a good midwestern drought could be on the horizon.

If we have a drought here in ND, then the wind will blow and these "New Farmers" will have to RE-LEARN what all those shelter belts they took out were for. I genuinely HOPE we don't have a drought!!! We've already had two days where the wind blew and made the air tan with dust it kicked up. NOT COOL!! Very disconcerting if you ask me. Cm'on Rain!!!!

I would give my opinion about some of the "stewards of the land" but it would only start a big argument. I will say that the shelter belts and tree groves were all planted for a reason and I think we are on the path to be reminded what that reason was

Drier than a popcorn fart here in W SD too. Our place up north got good moisture from the ugly winter but little since. Lawns are going quick to say the least, everyone thought it was fine until this week. The hay crop looks OK for the first cutting but beyond that I doubt there will be much. Crops are struggling otherwise. Not too much in the forecast either. Going to be a sad go if we don't get something soon.......

Definitely agree with the tree row comments but as a farmer you guys gotta understand most of those trees were only 40 yr trees and have been in for 60+. The best would be impliment the tree row program and get some new ones started to take the place of the rows that are just breaking down. But with the drought talk this is gonna be a tough year, another week without rain and I'd say we take 10bu off the top of wheat and beans will look ugly in a lot of places. We are lucky enough to have 80% sprouted and 20% still sitting in dry dirt.... could be bad for us in North Dakota... low prices on top of a drought is gonna make farming look like an uphill battle...

How are no till and tree removal both contributing factor when one is a massive force resisting wind erosion?

Fact is we have had droughts multiple times since the 93 switch over from the short drought in the late 80's and early 90's....anyone remember oahe and Sakakawea back in 2007? It's been dry for a few months now but ridiculously way too early to start professing a long-term drought let alone a full climate shift out of the wet cycle thats been around since the 40's.

Shelter belt tree rows are a thing of the past , to much spray to let tree rows grow now, grow weed rows now they grow very good, looks like the rain went to Canada

I don't know if it rained twice from 02-07 when I first moved here. The lake was pretty sad back then to
