My Honda 4 stroke started first pull after a summer's sleep. I giggled, patted its head and said "good girl".

What augers can you put on the clam plate? Can I take the bit off my Lazer Mag and mount it or do I need to but another bit?

Update on the clam plate and K drill with Milwaukee 18 Fuel
Drilled 50 plus holes in 5-8 inches. When we arrived at the first lake, my buddy was laughing at my set up. After he drilled a couple holes he wants it! Granted the ice is not thick but if a guy cleans out like he should on deeper ice I don’t see any problems with 2 ft of ice or deeper. Time will tell.
When I got home I plugged 2 batteries in charger, still had over 50% charge on the 1st battery and 2nd battery had close to 75%. The drill came with 3 - 5.0 batteries and I had all 3 along. Changed to 2nd battery after the first 30 holes.
With the backup up batteries, I put them in a small collapsible vinyl cooler with a couple hand warmers. Doing this would keep the batteries warm and less likely to drain prematurely i'm thinking.
I like the plate. Its a more traditional way to drill and was easy to keep balanced and drilling straight. So far I love this thing. Its ultra light. The 8"K drill Auger was impressive. Its cuts fast and for some of the places I fish, I need the chipper style blades.
Musky, you liking the plate?

Awesome to hear. I will find out shortly if Santa thought I was naughty or nice and brings me one! I also have the Milwaukee Fuel 18 with k drill..worked like a charm last year..until thick ice when I needed an extension so used the old trusty model 30 for that. Good to hear you like the clam plate!

I picked up a k drill and a DeWalt model 990 20 volt drill. I haven't been out to try it yet, so am hopeful it works. Will report back on the results. I'm too deep into the Dewalt stuff to change now.

I saw a couple guys the past few times I've been out using the k-drill/Milwaukee combo. Saw another with the clam plate/mora drill. After watching them it makes me tempted to get rid of the Honda. They look the the cats ass for ice under about 18". The only thing holding me back is by the time you buy a K-drill, Milwaukee, Tanaka you have $1000 tied up. I only have about $550 into my Honda even with another chipper flighting for dirty ice. I think if I owned any other auger I'd be making the switch.

It's nice for the handles and the trigger just like on a gas powered auger, but probably most important is the ball bearing system where the drill attaches to the auger mount. This way the drill is only used to spin the auger and not to support the auger torque, which is way easier on your drill.

Finally got out on Audubon to give my auger the test. The Dewalt 990 model with 8" k drill, drilled 24 holes, 16" thick. This is with one fully charged 4amp battery.

So that answers my question. 6" vs 8" You cut your hole count per battery about in half. I can drill anywhere from 40-50 6" holes on one 4amp hour battery. Thanks Kasey!

For another testimonial, I drilled about 18 holes with my set up last weekend
k drill 8 inch, millwauke fuel with five amp battery and clam plate. Ice was 20 plus inches thick and I killed the battery on the 18th hole. I didn't think that was too bad, I had two more charged batteries ready to go but was done for the day
couple weeks before that I drilled at least 30 holes in 12plus inches of ice and still had some battery left
