I completely agree. I think the only way he stays is a team friendly deal for a couple years. Maybe he realizes KOC is a good reason to stay.
Brady did it for years with the patriots and look how that turned out for them. Look How many quality players signed with the patriots for cheap with the hopes of getting a ring.

Lincoln, kinda...
Not really sure what the purpose of picking up Jones was, unless just a slight security blanket if Sam gets wounded. Sure wasn't impressive with NYG.
I do think JJ will benefit immensely from riding the pine this yr as Rogers and Love did for the Packers.
Insurance for the playoffs this year, and the Vikes will get what probably should be a 3rd round compensatory pick if he does not suit up for the Vikes next year.

Basically, the Vikings have nothing to lose. If Darnold wants a princely sum, the Vikes can try to work out something with Jones and have a competition between him and JJ for next year.

I have a hard time seeing any downside in this for the Vikings.

Which they were right to do as was shown in his play after that. With out a miracle they folded against the saints in the playoffs

Sam has way more talent than Case ever did. If he would do a 2 year contract I would be for it
There it is. At least you are consistent. Hey guess what? Case Keenum won as many playoff games in one year with the Vikings as Cousins did in six. I am a wins and losses guy. You fantasy football guys are not team win guys, you are individual player people, which I totally get with players moving around so much. Just answer this and I will leave you alone forever. If a QB, no matter who it is, leads your team to a 13-3 record, you would be looking for a different QB no matter what?

No I wouldn’t be . A qb with an upside you want to keep if it doesn’t make the team cap poor . That’s why case wasn’t signed not enough upside which they were right. That’s why Kirk was as not signed not enough upside and they were right. Now is darnold enough of a game changing qb that 5 and 300 million is worth it I do t think so . 2 and 60 that would be were both are getting value with money left to keep improving both side of the ball. It’s time to let jj take the reins then and find out what they got

Don't over pay for mediocre QB play. Cousins is a perfect example. Darnold hasn't done anything to warrant a $40M/yr salary yet. Even if he takes you to championship game he's not worth that kind of money. He got lucky yesterday on a couple underthrown balls. I think a lot of QB's would look just as good with the weapons Minny has. If Darnold wins the SB build the statue but I won't hold my breath. Spend the money on the lines and DB's.

Maybe they should put the franchise tag on Darnold? Not sure how much that would cost though

I think Jones has to be elevated to the active roster in 2024 regular season for the Vikes to be eligible for the compensatory pick.

The money they are paying pro atheletes these days is assanine-rediculous!
There is not a single human being worth that kind of money! (sp?)
We've had this conversation here before. Who should get the money if not the athletes? The owners? Unless people stop going to games, buying merch, watching games then the money keeps rolling in. Why shouldn't the people doing the work get their "fair" share? Owners are still making money hand-over-fist even with paying the salaries. There are literally a handful of people in the world who can play at the level of the highest paid athletes and they are mortgaging their future health for our entertainment.

$765 Million...What the actual fuck? Wasn't the entire Twins franchise valued at $1.2 Billion?
https://nypost.com/2024/12/08/sports/juan-soto-signing-with-mets-on-15-year-765-million-contract/
That's $51M a year - if it math's out for the front office, then yeah. How many people in this world can do what he does? He's bringing fans to the stadium which translates to tickets, $15 hotdogs, $20 beers, TV advertising, Mets merchandise, etc. A championship increases the amount they bring in. People need to stop paying for it or it'll just continue.

How much does that come out to per game also?
