anybody have one?

I need one for when I'm out alone - wondering about pros/cons - seems like an oddball shelter you don't see discussed much.

Now's the time to buy a shelter.

I wanted one at the beginning of last season but they didnt show up around GF until at least half way through the season. I havent seen any available here this year. I ended up getting the clam kenai pro thermal. They are on sale at cabelas for 299 as of today. I like it for walking out or if I am by myself fishing out of my truck it is only 50 pounds so super easy to load/unload. I often just loop the tow rope over the trailer ball and drag it around if making small moves. No poles to extend so you literally just sit down and flip it over. I am a huge otter fan but I do like this little house. The hideout may have just a bit more fishable area so would be easier to fish two holes. In the Kenai I dont think you could fish two holes but I have never tried it. As I am sure you know, look for something thermal.

It does seem like a weird little shelter, its to small for what i like IMO. I actually use an otter cabin as my one man though. I think id strongly consider the cottage over the hideout. Can get the cottage pro at Reeds for $489

I have a two man Otter sled (magnum) with a CanvasCraft full thermal lid that I love - but it's a drag for quick/easy scouting by yourself - kinda heavy.

the hideout is 60 lb and can be heated nicely with 1 lb bottles and a little catalytic

what's the cottage weigh?

the cottage would be a very nice choice. For me it was about weight and not F'ing around with extending poles. flip and go.

I think cottage weighs 80, so yeah it is heavier. My issue with hideout would be is the sled big enough to put anything in? I run pretty lightweight and i still manage to fill my cabin sled early ice once you throw in auger, 11# tank, portable buddy, minnows, bucket, rods, lunch bag etc.

I was thinking my snowmobile (Johnson Cargo Rack) would haul most stuff while pulling the Hideout. Or pulling it out by hand late season - or just unloading it out of my pickup driving around checking sloughs

basically a scouting tool with ability to stay awhile (full quality thermal)

I also have two empty large otters so I could train one of them with the shelter - or drop it in one and haul it that way - ha ha ha

Last year I was looking for a nice thermal one man. I wanted an Otter Hideout, but there wasn't any around close to home and I didn't want pay $75 to have one shipped. I bought an eskimo wide one inferno because I got a good deal on it and didn't have to pay to have one shipped. I am really happy with the house other than the sled isn't near the quality of my otter lodge. I had a chance to sit in an otter hide out this winter and it is a really nice house. If you are someone that moves around a lot the fix poles are great. There is enough floor space in a hideout for 2 holes, a flasher and a buddy heater out in front of you. I sat in an Otter cottage and it's a wide house, but I felt like it was a little tight to fish a 32 inch rod. If you can sit in a few one mans it will make your choice a lot easier.

Too Bad! I have an older fish-trap single (non thermal) with swivel cushioned seat and tow hitch I would have given you. We're down sizing and my wife thinks I need to down size the most so some of the toy that I don't use but keep just in case, have got to go. If you would have thought free was to low, a bottle of good rum would have "bought" it.

I'm in the market for a single flip over house for when I don't have the kids. What do you consider good rum?
