Is there any fish in Painted Woods Creek near Washburn? I see an area to park and launch a small boat but I never see anybody fish it.

There are pike. I heard they put a grate over the entrance to the Missouri for some reason years ago to keep the walleyes from running up it. Why? I do not know.

Yes. Never fished it there but have seen people many times below 83 fishing it. The game and fish stock it every few years if needed. It's a bit odd in that most of the time even though you may only be a mile or two from the river the fish can't get up there. If you go downstream there is a dam just up from the river that backs the creek up into the wma. They are expanding the whole set up this year due to recurring flooding of some privet ground so things are likely to change a bit. Never tried it but would guess at times fishing below the dam could be good but it's a bit of a walk at about a third of a mile. Here is the dam I speak of and the last stocking.

Im guessing it's the wma's dam they were speaking of and although not sure why it's there feel safe in saying it's not to stop walleyes. From what I can see it's looks like a flood control/duck habitat type of project.

When I was in HS we caught many large pike by the bridge, 1990 ish. Casting original Bill Lewis rattle traps. In tequila sunrise, never forget those alligators or that amazing bait that opened my eyes to artificial lures catching fish when bait (smelt ) didn't.

This is the time of year too. Good luck
