Looking at getting a Leupold scope for my 7mm Rem mag. I am looking at the VX-3, and am wondering for normal hunting situations, with the shot sometimes 400 to 500 yards, is parallax adjustment necessary? The salesmen keep saying for this necessary, especially since this is the gun I have decided to take in 2024 to Colorado for my first elk hunt. Just wondering what some of you that elk hunt think on this topic. I am not looking to shoot an animal at 1,000 yards.

Not where I'd like to be
Get a VX-5HD with side parallax and CDS elevation dial. Leave the parallax set at 100 yards. If you're taking a 400+ yard shot on elk, odds are you have time to dial it in for the best picture when the time comes. And if you carry it around with it set at 100, you won't have a problem with any closer quick shot you may have to take.

I prefer to have it, especially if your scope tops out @ 12x or higher. I typically set mine between 100-200 and adjust as necessary if I'm taking a longer shot and have time.

I actually find it more valuable for practice than actual hunting.
