Yea in most cases they’re not even close in price. There are some things I buy locally because after shipping they’re always the same or really close. But most items way off. Even making an attempt to price below msrp I could go with. But in majority of cases no effort at all

So even though i try and buy shit here it just cant be found so i dont even waste my time looking when i know its not here and buy on line and have it here and at 15-30% cheaper if they do per say have it.

this is true too.... very hard to find knowledgeable or even non-retarded help these days

one reason I loathe visiting sporting good stores is because I overhear "sales associates" and want to go postal

Funny this post came up today. I just got off of the phone calling 3 places in Dickinson to get quotes for pork butts to make deer sausage next weekend. After those calls I will end up saving $350 by driving to Bismarck to get it. I do have a work truck so I do not need to pay for gas to go get it. I am glad we finally got a huge freezer so I can watch the sales like a hawk and stock up next year.

As a 35 year old salesman that makes a living on customer service and have been doing it for 7 years there is definitely a trend. Some people understand that calling me at 9 at night or at 6 in the morning on a weekend is not free and love the service. Then you have the guy down the street that will not give you the time of day because you are a little more expensive from 8-5 but your the first one he calls in an emergency because I will actually answer the phone outside of normal business hours. Males from the age of 45-60 are the toughest they are stubborn and have had the buddy system for years. Females and younger males are easier because they just want someone to help them and take the bull by the horns. At least this is what I see in the Industrial sales field. Good customer service is a dying breed and I capitalize on it every day. Most people either don't give a shit or else they are overbearing trying to sell something.

I believe it is a combination of things. First over built when the oil boom was going, 2nd - corrupt or incompetent city leaders wasting millions on city projects, 3rd -property taxes, 4th - online shopping, 5th - Canadian exchange rates. One of my daughters plays on a traveling basketball team. Almost all the tournaments are in Bismarck or Mandan. Every time we go there the hotels are full of families for some sporting activity. The people who are in charge of bringing events to Minot need to pull their head out of their asses. There is big money in youth travel sports now a days. Visiting families tend to spend some cash at the local stores, restaurants and hotels.

Well put. I coach my 6th graders travel team and we say the same thing. Sports is a huge economic boon to a city and Mi it misses that completely. The bubble over the MSU Beavers field is a joke and huge waste of money. Zero tournaments worth a shit and no effort towards building a city culture of caring for the sports community like Bismarck. Sad.

if your buying a boat --- hold tight --- the recession is just starting ----- IMO

Apple once again --- What a piece of $hit --- Take your apple phones and chuck em in the lake.

Why is our stock market hinged on a little piece of $hit like applle ---- overratted and WAAAAAYYYYY overpriced -- babyboom chinese made junk.

Again the rest of the world uses android --- were the only dumb fks using apple. I dont get it. Babby booomerville.

How cheap did you find the pork? I should have stocked up when it was $1 a pound a few weeks ago,

I've found that when I look for something local they either don't have it in stock or its at a much higher price then online. I would rather buy local but with that said amazon gets a lot of my money.
I've lived in the Minot area for a long time and blame both the flood and boom for the over building. during the time of both the rest of the USA was in tough shape, we had a lot of out of state builders that rolled in for a quick kill and then left as soon as the economy improved at home.

We definitely had a boat load of asswipes that showed up. Contractors running around doing shoddy work and charging way above what they should have been. You had to be a full-time general contractor just to keep an eye on what they were doing every day And then correcting them.
Trying to rebuild destroyed homes while dealing with predators. Luckily if you had time to sort through all the BS, there was some good ones. I found an electrician that was great and priced below locals
among others, but you had to be on your toes or you were going to get screwed

They aren't worried about sports here because they are more interested in the 1 billion dollar flood project that was supposed to take 20 to 30 years to complete and if they could get funding for it will be completed in 5 years from the start. Hear they are broke though so it might take a couple more years. The parking ramps are going to suck a bunch of cash out of the funds because they will not support themselves like they were supposed to. The NAWS project is starting to suck more money out ot the budget because they haven't pumped a drop of water from Lake Sakakawea but need to spend more on it. 300 million to redo infrastructure and streets down town. Spent 12 million on land for a new dump grounds and then the people that live around the land they bought, complained about the garbage that will blow around and the smell so they nixed that plan and are saying a new sit farther west will cost 150 million. Lets not forget the park district spending millions and millions to make the zoo the hot spot to be in Minot. Just heard today that the guy that started the place to unload the containers on the east side of town and has taken millions out of the Magic fund is going to close it down and not pay for the millions he got. 200 million plus on an airport that is only 1/4 used. There are a lot more issues than this but more I type the more pissed I get. Its a shit show people and its only going to get worse.

I don't know what is going on in Grand Forks either. First we lost Macy's, then Sears, Pier 1, Hornbachers, and now K-mart is closing in a couple months.

"lost" is taking liberty with the english language when talking about those businesses.

Here's another thing I don't understand. First of all let me say that I hate Walmart. The wife usually goes there once a week or every two weeks. Today she had a list of things to get there and came home saying that things in the grocery store at Walmart are any where's from a dollar to 3 dollars cheaper per item, depending on what you buy, then Marketplace Foods on north hill. I am assuming it is because Walmart buys in bigger quantities, is there really that much of a discount in volume?

Unclear how many Alco stores will be closing. I heard a list on the radio one day but then later read an article that led me to believe that they might eventually be closing all of them.

Alco closed all their stores in AZ about 5 years ago. I don't know why they did that as the stores were always full of customers every time I went in to buy something.

Here in AZ they had a lot of their stores in small towns that didn't have any other places to shop do they do the same thing in ND?

Hey tika, I got an idea. Since you seem to know so much, instead of slinging dart after dart and bitching about the City you live in, maybe you should try to be part of the solution? How about running for city council, park board, school board or any of the other lack luster thankless volunteer positions that offer you the opportunity to be fully informed, involved, and part of the decision making process. Hmmmm, maybe I just figured out what’s wrong, too many people running there trap and not enough willing to actually be part of bettering the community they call home.

You'll get an earful if you get me started on Minot State spending money foolishly.. I subcontracted part of the Geothermal system a few years ago. What a GD disgrace to ND citizens and I'd like to know who all filled their pockets with under the table money. Iv'e been involved with some huge geothermal systems some at least 3 times bigger than Minot State but never anything even remotely close to the over engineered over priced system that Minot state threw as much money at as they could. They spent over 10 million on a system that should have came in around 5 . The last I heard they were complaining that they were so far over budget and they were begging for more money. WOW what a SS . It doesn't bother me one bit to blow the whistle loud and long on stupidity like that.

Yes, Pretty much the same here . Actually Alco closing so many stores came as a pretty big shock to me based on the towns they have stores in .

There is no sin in expecting more out of a board of directors or an elected official if you think they could do better.

I wouldn’t waste my time either. As DC said we should expect more out of our elected leaders and for them to not just worry about filling their pocket book. Minot is full of a few good ole boys trying to make big profits off the tax paying citizens:

Who designed that system for Minot State?

I figured it doesn’t get any worse than the Minot engineering department ..... millions of dollars wasted because of that department
