NFL team owner worth $26.8 billion buys nearly 1 million acres of land
Recently, it was announced that the 78-year-old, who also owns Premier League side Arsenal alongside the NBA's Denver Nuggets, the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, and the MLS's Colorado Rapids, had purchased nearly 1 million acres of land in New Mexico, making him America's largest private landowner.
The billionaire, who is worth $26.8bn, topped
Land Report's annual list of America's 100 largest landowners after purchasing the ranchland in New Mexico in December.
Kroenke's estimated $26.8bn net worth is derived from owning the Rams, Arsenal and Nuggets. And the purchase of the New Mexico land has seen his total land holdings soar to over 2.7 million acres of land across America and Canada.
The acres in New Mexico reportedly span four counties, making it the largest land purchase in America since 2011.
While it has not been revealed just how much Kroenke paid for the acres, Land Report estimates that the former value of the Rams owners' ranch holdings was $3.9bn.
Back in 2016, he made waves when he bought Waggoner Ranch in Texas, a historic site spanning 535,000 acres and the largest unbroken ranchland in the state. He has also purchased land in Montana and Nevada.
In becoming America's largest private landowner, Kroenke vaulted himself from fourth on Land Report's list to first, leapfrogging the Emmerson lumber family and billionaire media businessmen John Malone and Ted Turner.
