Those two gonad looking units stuck on inside back of a pheasant after you gut them... is that their testes?

If so, it seems like a really secure and comfortable spot - compared to ours.

Oh... and I get the willies every time I yank them out. Yeesh.

Thanks in advance.

Why would you gut a pheasant?

Fry them up and give them a try. I have never gutted a pheasant but if it smells anything like a goose I won't.

Pheasants are the least offensive bird to clean whole in my experience. If you haven't pierced intenstine it's darn near odorless. And for some reason blown up guts are rare for me. I do wait if they get up close so I assume that helps.

I think they are worse than ducks and geese honestly but I'm not squeamish.

Yes. They have testes. We've had the out of run of the mill regular roosters. But, never pheasant roosters. In hindsight, not sure why not.

Those are testes. Chickens/pheasants have a very interesting sexual anatomy. I took a lot of animal science classes at NDSU. Fun stuff.

It doesnt bother me at all (I could smell or eat anything) but I think pheasant guts are the worst there is. Maybe behind grouse I guess.

You ever do the trick of stepping on the wings and pulling? If I want em whole for the crock pot I use that trick. I pretty much breast em and cut the meat off the legs anymore though.

I have the feeling that bird gut smells are like a lot of other things in the "smelly" category (cheeses, skunks, mushrooms, horses, pigs) - some people detest one but rather enjoy, or at least tolerate, others.

Could be the bird's diet too I suppose.

Breast em all.
I don't gut my fish either, just fillet em.

I did once eat cow liver that mrs johnr prepared, it was rather a turn off, and now refrain from eating the guts like them Montanans seem to enjoy.

When I was an eastern loser, and only pheasant hunted a couple times a season I would try to keep all parts of the bird...hahaha :;:howdy
