Things are FINALLY moving into the post spawn summer bite and picking up. Its getting better each day. It feels really great to type that.
The fish are in the mid river holes but not setting up on any particular current seam at this time. The bite is still a grind to get numbers but stay on the move and it will happen.
I have had good luck on fresh sucker, frozen sucker and dead sucker on ice. I heard at catfish league that about every bait working. That says the cats are not being picky because they are hungry. I will add that as the water temps get into the 80s, I always notice that frozen bait seems to pick up. (keep frozen until use)
Lots of heat in the forecast and no real weather systems so things should stay very active for the time being. Some sections of river are starting to get low so be careful with boats.
Congratulations to Carson Schlenk (photo) with this Red River Valley Catfish League record Fat Cat 26.58 pounds (38 inches long) that was caught Wednesday evening.
Good luck to all anglers in Saturday’s Marley Concrete Cats Tournament in Moorhead.
