Anyone use these? Says they last 12 years +
Would be handy for propane augers and heaters. Save cash over time and relieve the clutter of a 20lb tank.
They look to be about a 1/2" taller. Which looks like it would be tight in a big buddy heater. Anyone doing this by chance?

Earliest I've ever fished on hard water was November 19th. Crazy to think that we're only a month away from that date. If you pick one of these up, let me know how it works in the big buddy.

I will DM. I think it will fit but it will be close. I'd love to ditch the 20 lb tank out of my sled.

I have been refilling the regular pounders for many years without issue. Trick is to cool the pounders and fill from a warm 20 lb tank.
Most places sell the adapter fitting to do this anymore.

[I am told that the covered fuel compartment on the Mr.Heater "Big Buddy" is about 1/16" too small in height to accommodate our cylinders without a slight modification to the plastic floor of the fuel compartment.]

^ from their website
Looks about right too. Gonna look at big buddy tomorrow and debate doing that plastic cutting modification.

I have refilled the "throwaway" ones many times with no issues. I do store them away from the house though along with gas cans and other flammable products. I bought the fitting at menards and last time I was in that area of the store they still sold them.

Been filling my own 1lb coleman propane canisters for awhile now. like Wild and Free said it is very easy to do. Put the canister someplace cold like freezer or snowbank for 15min , next step screw in adapter and tighten into room temp 20# propane tank then screw in 1# coleman canister to the female adapter end tighten down next step turn 20# tank upside down and slowly open valve. You can hear it fill, shut valve off when you hear nothing. Then set upright and unscrew 1# tank. Warning do this outside. Picked up my adapter at scheel for 20 buck instructions included. Saves me a ton of money since i usually fill 6 or more at a time. Stay Safe.

I've refilled the pounder tanks before, but I did find that many of the nozzles on them are not of good quality and seem to leak. If I hear any leaking from a cylinder I used up the propane as much as possible and tossed it. Maybe it's the lower pressure on those? The transfer does work. Just realize you will still have to buy some pounders to use and sort through before you find a reasonable canister that holds the LPG. Sucked filling one only to hear it leak back out.

I have some of the coleman pounders that have been around for 10-15 years at least that have been refilled many times and have never had one leak yet.

How do you know when they are full.

Just let them sit for a minute or two and they equalize with the fill tank then just close the valve on the 20 lb tank or whatever size you are filling from and you are done.

I have found it works best to use a source tank that is at least half full of liquid, if it is too low then you tend to get more vapor than liquid and they don't last very long at that point.

Personally unless you need the 1# for auger, id skip the hassle and pick up an 11# tank. IMO 11# is the perfect compromise, i can go on quite a few trips with my portable buddy and 11#. Ive never been a fan if the 1# though.

Why mess with the little tanks when you can get a 5# tank and not have to worry about changing them out as often. Let the fill stations mess with filling tanks.

I need to get a 5 lb tank. I wonder if runnings carries them.

Runnings or Menards are probably your best bet. I bought my 11# at Menards, 11% off rebate right now. I waited for them to go on sale and they never did, 11% is about as good as you will get.

I just buy the 1lb'ers for the Big Buddy because of convenience. I have the refill nozzle. I hope I can take my wife along enough to refill a couple.
