Note: I don't own a 223/5.56 or a 308. And if I did, I probably wouldn't reload for them either.

I keep getting worse by the day. I tried a Lyman neck turning tool and didn't like it. I tried an RCBS neck turning tool attached to my Protrim and didn't like it. I bit the bullet and sent for a Sinclair micrometer adjustable today. I am sitting on 1000 once fired Federal 308 so it's worth it. Also I pay about half price comparing Lapua for my 6.5X284 to purchasing 284 Winchester, sizing, and then turning the thick neck down. Actually I get better accuracy than I do with the Lapua brass.

All kidding aside, I have to talk about my .308 Remington 700 5R. I had the barrel threaded and a muzzle break installed. I also attached a plastic cheek riser to the stock. Other than that, it's bone stock in the original HSP lightweight stock and pre-recall factory trigger. The action hasn't been bedded or trued or blueprinted.

The load is courtesy SDMF (to whom I am eternally grateful):
- Federal Lake City once-fired brass
- 45grn R15 powder
- 155gr Lapua Scenar OTM
- 2,870 FPS

The last two times I had the rifle out, these are the 1st groups I shot off the bench at 100 yards (FYI, I am a notoriously bad shooter):

That's pretty impressive for a factory barrel.
I'm going to probably have the barrel shot out before I find something that shoots consistently well out of my stock Rem 7mm. I thought that through the magic of reloading I could make a crappy factory sporter-weight barrel shoot 1/2 moa. I'm almost ready to admit I was wrong. Problem is I have a custom barrel on another gun that will consistently shoot one ragged hole, so now I think all my guns can do that if I just believe.

I've seen a close friends reloading room and asked him questions about the time and money put into it.... can be quite a bit. Just in powder alone I counted over $3,000 worth. He also shoots up to 10 competitions a year and doesn't have kids....

I just built a 25/45 sharps. At $23 for 20 rounds, I have to reload for it. Other that buying the more expensive .257 slugs, its not much more $ than reloading for .223.
