Buddy and I put in at the casino Saturday morning about 11, hit east points first then south to Hunt's Along Bay area. Surprised water was clear, no visibility concerns. Found most fish hanging in 18-22 fow. Water temps anywhere from 44 to 48 degrees. Jig and minnows - did not try plastics - soft bites. Caught as many on the dead stick dragging the minnows as we did jigging. Ended up catching 11-12 walleye, had 2 overs that went back 25in and 27.5in. Kept 7 nice eaters - fish were spawned out...and they have their feedbag on. The smallest keeper, 16in had 4 smelt in it's stomach! Great afternoon - should be another terrific year for fishing on Sak!

Only 2 of the males we caught on OAHE last weekend were not spawned out. 47-48 degrees where we were.

the caravan is on the way now!!
So is the mud, satellite imagery shows the mud from the Yellowstone just north of New Town. With the heavy rains forecasted out there this week, looks like the mud will likely be on the move, shouldn't be a silt event though fortunately.

Same here. Was down on Saturday and every walleye I brought aboard was making a mess in the boat. Saw the same water temp as you.

I was there this past weekend. Talked to/saw lots of people catching them in 15-20’ dragging jigs or pulling Lindy’s with minnows. Generally a bit smaller size (<18”) but bigger numbers.

I stayed a bit more shallow for whatever reason- Saturday: threw jigs/minnows around in 5-8 FOW for about 2 hours and kept 5 in the 18”-20” range before the kids got bored.

Sunday: couldn’t find a single minnow for sale in Newtown, so I threw plastics around in 5-8 FOW and got my 5 fish in short order. Nicer size; 18-23”. One was tagged, which was neat. 50-52 degree water. All spawned out.

Do you mind sharing what you have heard other than "it's getting going in Newtown"?
Seen some pics of live wells is all. I'm living vicariously through you lucky ducks. I'm currently without a boat and have a bad case of spring fever lol.

Fished deep water Bay Area last Saturday, slow bite until we figured out where they were hanging. Lindy style rigs with a minnow were the the takers..
What did you see for water temps grumster?

** 5/25/2024 Update: Buddy and I went back to New Town Saturday - put in at the casino ramp, on the water at 1030. Once again started on east shoreline points 2 to 4 miles south of the ramp. Water temps initially 56 to 58 degrees. Jigs/minnows/plastics...started pitching in 5 to 10 fow, caught 1 dink, slid out to 20-25 fow and it was game on! Caught walleye/white bass/skip jacks. Ran south just past Diamond Head, west shoreline, water temps up to 58 - 60 degrees by about 2PM. We kept 5 nice fish...off the water about 4. Water clarity still good, no issues. Looks like weather finally gonna warm up next weekend - the wife and I camping at Indian Hills, so we'll see how that middle part of the lake is doing. Have a great week gents...get out and wet a line!
