I could go and dig but it's easier to ask , What offsets the sales tax in MT ?

Lincoln, kinda...
4% is actually a pretty cheap lodging tax. I've seen some places where it's 12-16%. That really adds up during a week stay.

I think our hardees does the same thing. I excuse it though. Hiring criminals who are incapable of making a hot ham and cheese correctly cost money. So, i do my part to help them out.

Gambling is supposed to....the property tax here would make you barf though, with other tax increases attempted with every session claiming the government is broke. You know, the usual.

I live in oil country, and as we westerners had the living shit kicked out of us with excess people, traffic, and all the boom nonsense we smiled and took it. The money collected went to the entire state, not just the counties making that extra cash. Well now if in this down turn our western cities cant count on the eastern cities to spread that "little Minneapolis cash" right back the same way we shared it.... Well that just effn sucks balls, big hair, greasy, sweaty, old balls.

Sorry #guywitholdballs, that wasn't directed at your old skater nuts...haha

I agree with this. Over the past many many years, the western part of the state has alternately been left alone, then boomed and brought in money, then forgotten again.

(I know this would never happen, but..) Either the state of West Dakota needs to separate, or the entire state needs to be equal. Living in Bismarck, I'm right in the middle. We were a "bedroom community" for the oil boom. What I saw was property values skyrocketing, and tax rates increasing. I saw more crime than before, but my pay didn't increase a penny.

Anyhow, yes, Johnr, I wouldn't want to have lived in Dickinson or Watford or Williston these past 5 years. Nope, no thanks.

FWIW, Fargo holds no draw for me either.

As long as we are talking taxes, how many check the gas pumps when filling? Are you sure it is 2.19 a gallon or whatever it says on the sign? Have you ever stopped nozzle right at the gallon mark to make sure they aren't pulling your leg? How about reading the sticker when it was last checked/calibrated? Could be some extra pocketing of cash if they are incorrect.

I check those stickers on occasion. all have been recent inspections. If I recall the fine for pumps out of calibration is huge so there is a big incentive to make sure they are accurate.

went through Hardees again this morning. They made corrections. But they are still charging over 9% because they are rounding up. I recall the court put the kabosh to that a few years ago in a decision. The state was rounding up the tax where if the tax came out to 3.7 cents they were rounding it to 4 cents. courts made them round down so it had to be rounded down to 3 cents. So this morning the tax came out to around .092 percent. Anybody else recall that ?
