How good can a power poll or talon work mounted in the back of the boat? You guys going to mount them on the bow? It would look goofy as hell. No way they would work in anything bigger than 2 ft waves. In the river I would not want to have the back of my boat against the current. Many years ago I saw a boat sink in about 4 seconds in the tailrace when a guy tied his anchor off on the back of the boat.
I've heard stories too. Unless you have a LOT of rope out, the angle of the anchor rope is going to pull your boat down. Couple this with the stern against the current - equals bad idea.
A power pole however, would push down on the sandbar, and up on the transom. In theory anyhow...
What I had in mind (and maybe it IS a bad idea) was using a power pole in a couple feet of water. There are some shallow bars south of the honey hole, that at night are only 2 ft or so. Gravel/sand mix. And we've caught rainbows and walleyes on/over them at night/dusk.
The main difference between this and an anchor, is that if the anchor becomes lodged, and trouble develops, you might have no choice but to cut the rope. With a power pole, you could simply push a button.
Food for thought...
