We had some when I was in high school. Man did we have fun on them! Always stayed away from people fishing but that was very easy to do on Sak in the early 2000's. We could ride for hours without seeing anybody. Dad hated paying to fix them. The gas and oil bill was a whole nother ball of wax. Thanks Dad! I would like to get one but I cannot justify it. Yet.....

I did the same thing a few years back. I don't even know how to start it, but both my girls do and they are the ones who use it. Actually this Friday I am taking it to Bismarck and my daughter will use it there for the summer. She is in NDSU Nursing school there and works at Sanford. She rented a slip and may as get the use out of it. I'll go pick it up around Labor Day.

I had either 4 or 5 mini-vans provided by employers for me to drive and my dad had 8-9 for the same reason. While they're certainly not "cool", however, their handiness is impossible to overstate. Additionally, the AWD versions are road-holding sonsabitches and will go places you'd not think they could, or should. Their lack of ground clearance can be mitigated somewhat by significantly increased speeds for short distances, this is especially true if maint/repairs are on some manner of corporate dime.

It's no trouble at all to easily hunt 4 adults and 3-4 dogs outta a mini-van.

My work rig is a super crew F-150 with a topper and roof rack for when I need to use my canoe. Can fit a jumbo size pet porter in the back with the seat folded up on cold days when the pup joins me for fieldwork. But. To each their own I suppose. Let us not get off track. Mr. R's PWC is the topic of the day!

I agree, jet-skis are a pain in the ass. Until you get on one and then they're fun as hell. Do war sunglasses while riding, a dragon-fly in the eye at 70 mph hurts. Do understand the rule for wearing a life-jacket but don't like it. A woman hanging on to you from behind doesn't feel the same while rubbing her boobs on you while wearing that dame lifejacket.

Don't worry about the price of gas, it's so cheap right now you'll barely notice the cost. Have a great summer.

Proud member of AA (automatic asshole) since 1973. Haha! Truthfully, they are much fun. You rarely see people frown when racing around on them.

Wow, just was thinking. I bought a brand-new Sea-Doo XP in 1997. 23 years ago - for the arithmetically challenged. It was 800 cc's, 110 hp. The baddest machine on the water then. Would haul my skinny carcass around at just over 60 mph. I remember the ad. Very yellow, very fast.

110 hp is pretty anemic these days, I should think. Then again, I recall it being about $8K with trailer and cover. I don't guess that'd buy a lot of muscle, these days.

We had an AWD Astro when I was growing up. Thing was unstoppable in the snow. The front bumper was kind of "V" shaped and would scrape snow off to either side and you'd just keep truckin'. We had a long private drive that wasn't cleared in a timely manner, but we were never trapped at our house.

I got it when my parents wanted to get rid of it. I sold it to get an Xterra because I was young and knew everything. Wish I still had that van.

The Astro was essentially an AWD S-10 with a van body. Dad's 1st mini-van was an AWD Astro. Tranny didn't make 65K and it never towed a single thing.

No, they weren't. Lack of a Port-side door save for the driver was a major bummer.

Body-on-Frame and using the 4.3L V-6 were excellent ideas though. My dad's transmission failure notwithstanding, I know 1 guy who towed a 20' deck boat w/his AWD Astro and another friend who used to tow his 19' Pro-V from Fargo to Bismarck regularly with an Astro.

Unibody construction and towing is less than ideal IMO and a CVT for towing is a no-go for me.
