They don’t have a fucking clue how many they’re are. When estimates range from 5-21 million it tells me they don’t really know. I don’t think the numbers have changed a lot. I think migration patterns have. We see a lot more birds both spring and fall now in central ND than we used to. The James river and devils lake used to be the hot corridor. I think it’s slowly changing. I think a lot of the James river birds have started using this corridor as it generally opens sooner. Personally most falls and many springs it feels like there are more birds than the year before. Mine opinion is anecdotal as well so I can definitely agree well probably never know when the key focus of half of America is if women can have a penis.
I could be out in left field but down here if you look at when the migration started pushing west it corresponds with one factor that never changes every year. Wind towers they started going up in the eastern part of sodak . At the start and through the mid 2000 Watertown was always huge bird numbers now I think we have as many over here. Might not affect anything but those big ass blades spinning affects the birds I think.

That’s possible. Not sure I’ve noticed too much of an influence up here but one thing I noticed back in the early 2000s was up in my home area of NE ND they started growing a shit ton of canola. I feel the switch to canola and magnitude it’s grown in some areas of northeastern ND played a part in birds shifting west. You don’t see the migration that you used to up in that corner.

One step closer to the end.
Also years ago goose season closed at Noon everyday. Till time change then 1pm. The geese got smart and wouldn't leave the water till really late morning or early afternoon. The reason season was that way was so they wouldn't get shot out of the state. Then years later season would change and we could hunt geese all day on Wednesday and Saturday. Waterfowl was managed alot different back then compared to now.

I would say most of the westward migration shift has been caused by ag practices. Way less small grains being raised in eastern ND than there used to be I think that has a lot to do with it. Snow geese love those stubble fields with regrowth and winter wheat fields to feed in, more so than corn and bean fields.

We hit them one day good they where loaded all adult birds in area by Riverdale and Underwood ND now this week with snow north of Bismarck this week and south in South Dakota I have seen none not even flying but I am not outside very much. As far as wind towers those peace of shits are all over state even south west ND. Don't know what to think on that.
