New charge filed against former North Dakota Game and Fish director
MORTON COUNTY, N.D. (KMOT) – State prosecutors have charged Terry Steinwand, the former North Dakota Game and Fish Director, with an A-misdemeanor sexual assault charge.
Last week Your News Leader reported the
state dismissed a AA-felony gross sexual imposition charge against Steinwand, after a district judge rejected a plea agreement twice.
The charge was dismissed without prejudice, which gives prosecutors the chance to refile.
A
motion from the state indicated prosecutors were looking to pursue a lower charge against Steinwand following talks with the victim’s family.
Prosecutors initially filed the AA-felony charge in September. According to court documents, Steinwand admitted to touching the victim inappropriately.
It’s not confirmed that the charge is a re-file of the previous case, as court filings are not accessible outside of business hours.
Your News Leader reached out to the prosecution for more information on the new case file and will update when we learn more.
Steinwand has an initial appearance on the new charge April 28 at 2:30 p.m.
