Thoughts on access for boats on Sak and or Audubon? Hoping she's open down past New Town at least. Gotta run down to Garrison tomorrow so I'll check a few places. Looks like temps and wind will be decent all weekend...just need some open water!

I really doubt Audubon or the East End of Sakakawea will be open by the weekend. At best you'll be dodging ice bergs the size of semi's and I don't really think it'll even be broke up by the weekend. As of this morning, it's still within 10ft of the shores and touching several places still. Certainly dark and looks rotten though. Heck, there were guys still ice fishing the east end less than a week ago! Now as far as New Town up, you might have a chance, haven't been up that direction so no sure how far down she's opened up with the river.

I drove my side x side on the ice and needed my extension to drill holes. The ice was hard and still came up in shavings and not chunks. This was last Monday and Tuesday. I doubt a boat will be useable till late next week

Just checked the ND DOT web cam pics...looks like water completely open at the New Town bridge by Four Bears.

That's a lifetime ago with a week of 60s and 70s. The ice at least by the dam is a lot of thing but solid ain't one of them. Every time you look at one of these pictures it's different because the ice is all busted up into pieces and sloshing back and forth. you put much wind on this and she's going to fall apart.

Can't believe how quick conditions changed this year...guess that's par for the course in North Dakota!

Looks like both Sak and Devils threw in the towel over the last day. Still a little bit here and there but that won't last long now.

Still ice on Sak at Pick City today----the ice has moved more to the north today with the light wind----not ice out yet but should hopefully be in a few days. Scoria bay has lots of ice back in it again today.
