Anybody know what the small springs on the top of a non-insulated tipup are supposed to be used for? I’ve never bothered with them and have had decent luck, but I’d really like to know what they’re supposed to be used for in case I’m missing out on something. Not the flag spring, but the small spring on the top of the shaft.

Good question. Without grabbing one out of the truck, inthink the help set tension for bite sensitivity. Spool spins on lighter or heavier bites. I think there is something you can tighten to compress them

I've always thought they are for getting your minnows a wake up call by pressing down on the top of the vertical shaft a couple of times.
