Over the years I have run 3 different versions which Ill report on below. I will say installation of any of these 3 models is very easy for even an inexperienced individual with the hardest part being running the wires. Phsyical connections under the cowl are about as easy as it gets.
Trollmaster Pro 2
This unit definitely works as it should, in my opinion the knob worked just fine and was easy to adjust. There was some pickup that needed to be done before the servo would engage (even with cable tension set correctly). My biggest complaint was the buttons are small and feel cheap, sometimes having to press a few times to find the sweet spot to click the button.
Trollmaster Pro 3 Wireless
The wireless clip to your belt feature is awesome, amazing how much I used it. I could be running the net out the back of the boat and hit idle if I needed while a friend was reeling the fish in. The cons of this unit were, and still are, that the battery life is terrible. This is information from many users, not just myself. Some guys have found better luck running expensive lithium batteries in the remote, but I found that it did not work that way for me.
iTroll G2
This is the unit I am currently running and also ran on my last boat. This unit is designed very well and the servo increments seem more accurate than the trollmaster versions. The buttons are large and easy to press with a responsive click feel to them. The hunt mode is a paid add on, I have not done this on either boat as our trolling passes involve more steering here than say open water trolling on the great lakes. There are times it would be nice, but they dont outweigh the added cost.
When you are at a dealership purchasing and you choose the iTroll, make sure to ask if they have any remaining G2 units, they have now come out with the G2.5 and G3 versions, and they are more expensive and accomplish most of the same things.
