Heads up everyone. Game and Fish has a new policy. They're not mailing out our spring turkeys tags until you buy your new hunting license for the year. I wonder what brainiac decided this.

Apparently, there was a problem with people not obtaining their small game and/or general game and habitat license.

At first, I was going to say that I am not sure why it is a problem to require that. Then, I went to buy my new combination license... but they aren't available yet...

Im sure before all tags our mailed out they will require that a new hunting or sportsman lic is purchased before tags will be sent out. To me its a easy reminder to update your lic to the current yr.

That is my thinking too. But the season starts in 1 month and I cant buy a new sportsman's license yet. They need to make them available sooner. They aren't giving themselves a lot of time to mail turkey tags...

Need a new fishing license April 1 anyway, so I've never had trouble remembering to get the proper paperwork. I did forget to get the stamp for my son last year though prior to the season starting as he doesn't need a fishing license so I never thought about the required general game one for him. I guess it's a good reminder to get it prior to the season. I think I read they will be available mid march, be nice if they'd shoot out an email reminder to people that drew tags to buy the license as soon as they were available.

If I remember right, I think you used to be able to use the previous years general game/certificate for spring turkey. That got changed and that's probably where the issues have come from.

Pretty common in other states I've hunted. Need all licenses required before you can buy the specialty tag. Would seem to make sense to require the general license at the time of application.

It won't matter how they issue the licenses. Not everyone will be happy.

bckhntr was correct. At one time you could use either the previous year's general license or a current year. Probably a pita to keep track of it all. I prefer a license that is good from a set date to a set date.

Definitely cutting it a little close but then again so does this thread. When you posted this yesterday it was true you couldn't buy a 2018 license but that's no longer true today.

Still haven't gotten my spring turkey tag in the mail yet. Only 16 days until opening day. I bought my combination license over 2 weeks ago.

Their website crashed yesterday so they extended the application for the big 3 until Friday. The NDGF is unbelievable

Just a quick bitch,
Several days ago, I logged into the G&F website to apply for the lifetime tags and renew my licenses. I also was going to grab a leftover turkey tag. Now granted, I'm not a wizard on the computer but I've been on websites and put 4 different things in a shopping cart and made the purchase. Not so tuff. I had a hell of a time and I kept having to go back and redo the same shit I had already done so I finally decided to drop the turkey tag and settle for the other 3 things. The thought was to log back in and buy the turkey tag right afterwards. I couldn't get back in and by the time I did, tags gone. LOL I was so frustrated that I had to laugh about it. How hard can it be?

Well I finally called the Game and Fish yesterday to find out what the deal was with the turkey tags since I haven't received mine yet. They said they should be mailing them out this week sometime. Cutting it a little close don't you think?

I called yesterday as well thinking something must be wrong should have gotten them by now, but was told they were still working on printing them.
