I've only known one person who overstayed his visa. He was an older Japanese guy who wanted to do a PhD at UND. Once he didn't meet academic standards, ICE hauled him away.
This was 20-some years ago, but it only took about 2 weeks from him being enrolled to gone after the Christmas break.
