Has anyone had experience with this and how insurance is handled??

If I cant get it covered I think I might convert it into one of these two

Insurance should cover it. It's about a 1700$ fix from my reading in walleye central. Happens more then one would think. If you do some digging around you may be able to find just that section from someone that had it happen. I know there were a few awhile back on walleye central for sale. Hope you get it fixed as it does suck.

Also the phone may be your friend. Get a dealer list for say 500 mile radius and make some calls and see if they have something from someone swapping over to bubbles. Myself I need that windshield on the cool days. I've had good luck finding parts in this manner for older motors that are obselote.

If that was a Lund, I could have hooked you up with that section. My dads boat took a rock to the port side last summer. Go to boat dealer, order and pay for windshield, turn into your insurance. Costs your deductible. I would also take it to a auto detail place to get the glass taken care of.

I had the sport shields on my Triton. Hated them. The only thing they did was block some rain when riding up on plane. Other than that I thought they were worthless.

Now, I really appreciate a walk-thru windshield. Not only does it block out that same rain, but a hug amount of NoDak wind is cutoff from us on this side of the glass. I'd never go back to a bubble/sport shield again.

My $0.02

I hear you, I would never get rid of my walk-though windshield. Wife and kids love it, and fishing muskies into November it comes in real handy!

Yeah, this sucks. Let your phone be your friend if the insurance company balks at this. I have heard the Lund version of a walk-through windshield is a little over $2k. Often times it's because the middle glass wasn't latched and ended up shattering when a gust of wind whips it open, or closed. This means there tends to be spare right and left sides available to those willing to scrounge.

Good luck!

At least it should be possible to find a replacement for a newer boat. My dad lost the port side glass on his 1990 Crestliner to a rock kicked up by an end dump truck a few years back. After a lot of phone calls we couldn't find a replacement part, so he used plexiglass. It's not good as new but it works OK. At first glance it looked like a flat part that you could get from any glass shop, but when you look closely it's curved just enough that a flat piece won't fit unless it can flex.

Taylor made? Get ready to bang your head against something solid. Luckily the starboard side doesn't break as often(meaning shops might have an extra one) and I would hope it is new enough that your dealer can simply order a new section, instead of the $1500+ full kit. But I wouldn't put it past taylormade to claim that windshield is no longer manufactured.

I did my boat windshield breakage on Friday of this week, wife was back in Dickinson so I had her call the dealer, they need the serial numbers from the boat to get the exact part number to order, but stated the cost would be in the 3,000 to $4,000 range. Guessing that is for an entire windshield, not just the section that broke.
They also said it can take 6 weeks to get the part, and another couple weeks to fix it.

I towed mine about an hour this weekend to the big lake without the cover, and it made me nervous.....

I will now cover mine no matter what. Man I dont want to deal with that! Hopefully canvas helps but I suppose it still could break given the right sicheeation.

I have a small 6 inch seam that has come undone on the back part of my tarp, I didn't want to run down the road with the tarp on, like I have since owning the boat, for fear of the tarp ripping. So I took it off in the morning, and busted my windshield instead...;:;banghead

Wonder why it takes 6 weeks to get a windshield. If this was your car or truck you could have the windshield tomorrow and probably installed that day or the next. I'm also pretty sure your car or truck windshield cost would not approach $1000. Then again it's been a long time since I've replaced a full windshield on a vehicle.

Either way it seems like too long a wait and too high a price.

Volume and frequency. Any time the boat manufacturer changes a hull, that's potentially a new windshield design. Then figure in that only a very small percentage of boat windshields ever get broken. If your boat is even 1 generation out of date then your windshield repair is almost assuredly a one-off, essentially it's a "custom" job every time they do it. Set-up and tear-down time running one off glass can't be cheap.
