Mr. Nelson, if you would, please share EXACTLY how YOU would have "handled" this.

The ONLY thing that will make those traveling here from outside our state that you mention as spinning these actions you chastize satisfied is if the pipeline ends completely. Not a reroute, not more safety measures, end it completely.

So when that happens, how will it be "spun"? A victory over greed an d big oil and poluting our future and saving our water and all the other crap they "spin"?

It will be FAR more fuel to future fires than arresting some twit of a reporter ever would.

I guess I would rather county sheriffs do what their county residents elected them to do in their application of the law than what this media will worry about.

Someone mentioned it earlier, get ducks in a row and start working on the pipeline in Dec. That cozy little camp you walked thru to become an expert will be empty styrofoam containers and plastic water bottles and nothing else but trash.

Well let's do the math here you say he should do the job he is paid to do. Well let's see he puts out a warrant for this reporter for trespassing. Gee I'm sure the 38 total arrests so far are the only ones to ever trespassed obviously! And don't give me they were only able to ID two of them on this particular day. If it was me and I had the tribe tell me like they did him that it didn't matter where they put it or what the court says I would have pushed for the company to get in there get it done as fast as they can and start putting some miles between them and what was only about a hundred people then! But instead they asked the company to stand down and now that's blown up in the their face. If he is to do the job he's paid to do the number of people arrested for trespassing should be well into the hundreds by now but instead they stand back and watch because it's been allowed to grow past what they can control.

That said he's stuck in a shit spot and the blame for much of what I just posted falls far more on Dalrymple. And like you would be very interested in seeing just how much these green people love nature when she turns white! Me thinks the camp won't be near as big!

Probably heading home. They brag about how many natives they have had there but a big chunk of that was because of the pow wow this last weekend.

I changed my opinion about the Keystone XL , I'd rather see 800,000 Bbl a day of Canadian oil on the global market than Bakken oil.

It has always confused me when a politician says we have to become energy self sufficient, then that same politician approves of selling our oil to another country.

Yeah and that's why you don't want official paperwork making it look like they are telling the truth and the cops are trying to cover it up!

As much money as they have that would not be surprising at all.

That confusion is caused from trust, I don't have much trust anymore but I sure see a lot of greed . Trump is starting to gain my respect (but I still say Americans should see Gary Johnsons debate too)(And I still don't trust trump and he is greedy) That said, There is some middle ground between trump and Johnson that could mix well. Trump wants to completely abolish the EPA and Johnson wants to streamline the Gov. Lots to be gained and we should be open to everybody's ideas If for no other good reason, just for thought. Point being, This problem is way bigger than getting oil across the river, Once the oil flows past this little bump in the road it is free sailing to tankers headed for Europe or China or who knows where. At least some of it will, Who knows how much but mark my words some of it will, Global markets will determine how much. Oil companies only have one thing on their mind and politicians follow. Get EPA out of the refinery business and let engineers design build some smaller satellite refineries. Say we combined EPA,DOE and what other agencies that fall in line and streamline the process but with the same results .

In my best trump voice, I'd fire 1/2 of them and keep the good ones and short staff the hell out of them so there is no chance of somebody waiting for somebody else to do their job.

Tiger Trump, I hope he sends out memos

This whole thing is going to get to be a much bigger mess. I'm not so sure the president has the authority to shut this down after all the proper protocol was followed and all the proper permits obtained. I imagine there has been a suit filed already against the president in this regard. The damages we tax payers are going to pay is going to be huge. I cannot understand why any of the individuals were not arrested immediately when they trespassed. Is it safe to assume we can all thumb our noses at the "no trespassing" signs this fall while hunting? The minute Trump is elected and takes office it's game back on anyway.

What I want to know is where are Hoeven, Heidi, and Cramer on this issue? Seems like they are hiding out in Washington hoping this whole thing blows over. I suspect Heidi is not for the pipeline as she is a demo and needs those native votes to even have a chance at tge ballot box. To my knowledge, none of them have stepped up and supported the pipeline, maybe they have and I missed it, but if they did it was probably just a sound bite or talking point. We here in ND are represented, like usual, with people who have no backbone and are more interested in getting re-elected than taking a stand or position on a controversial matter such as the pipeline. Again, I call for term limits on Congress, maybe if they didn't have a re-election to worry about they would actually stand for something.

Cramer has been on the radio talking about it a couple times already that I have heard may have been more he has been outspoken at least Heidi made a quick worthless statement last week that pretty much dodged the whole underlying issue but Hoeven has been 100% absent on this.

Typical establishment politicians. They go to Washington to serve themselves not America, or the people who elect them in North Dakota.

I remember when I was on the church council. I had five people working on me to be on the council and I kept resisting. At last I gave in and I told the pastor "sorry for being so reluctant". He laughed. The next week he handed me a copy of an article by a bishop. It said that the people you want on your church council are people who don't want to do it. People who want to be on the council have an agenda. Maybe we use our draft the wrong way. Perhaps we should draft good people we know to serve in Washington. Those who want to be there have an agenda.

I love the whole situation. The ACOE was praising how easy it would be to work with the Tribe in context of the land transfer. The ACOE Colonel told me face to face I should actually thank the Corp. I laughed to his face and said I think you have a skewed understanding.

Now they see it first hand. The Tribe never even filed the injunction relating to potential environmental impacts. They filed because saw opportunity to invade private property jurisdiction. Believe me when I say reading between the lines is all about obtaining control by nanipulating people to believe they have cultural say in every acre of land because they lived in the 1800s and before hence someone could be buried somewhere or a rock could be theirs. That's what this was about.

Any of you read the judge ruling? I have, a complete embarrassment if a protester had a brain. Their protests are completely unfounded.

Heidi has delicate ice to navigate because she is pushing hard for transfer of lands to Standing Rock. Now with this, she has to be very careful. Hoeven? Why would he take his head out into the line of fire when can do work behind the scenes.

And yes, this is a total over reach of this President. This is who they want to be. Controllers of all. And some of you sheep keep voting these people in. Yuck.

[FONT=&quot][h=1]Charge against reporter 'raises a red flag'[/h]

The head of the state newspaper association says charges filed against a reporter who documented a pipeline protest "at least raises a red flag," though law enforcement says she was targeted because she could be identified from video footage -- not because she is a journalist.

"It’s apparent that the protest was on private property, but it’s regrettable that authorities chose to charge a reporter who was just doing her job," Steve Andrist, executive director of the North Dakota Newspaper Association, said via email about the misdemeanor trespass charge filed against Amy Goodman, a New York-based reporter who documented the use of guard dogs at a Dakota Access Pipeline protest.

"There were a lot of people at the protest site, and only two of them were charged. One was a reporter, and that certainly creates the impression that the authorities were attempting to silence a journalist and prevent her from telling an important story," Andrist wrote after reviewing the complaint against her.

Goodman was charged Thursday in Morton County with one count of trespassing, based on video footage of her at a protest site on private property during Labor Day weekend, according to court documents. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

Goodman reported on a clash between protesters and private security at an active construction site south of Mandan that the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe said contained historic artifacts. Three guards were reportedly injured, and several protesters said they were pepper-sprayed and bitten by dogs handled by the security personnel. The North Dakota Private Investigation and Security Board has since opened an investigation into the use of dogs at the site.

Footage of the protest was featured on "Democracy Now," a TV news show hosted by Goodman. It went viral on social media and may have been used as evidence against her.

"Amy Goodman can be seen on video identifying herself and interviewing protesters about their involvement in the protest," according to a police affidavit filed in the case.

Jack McDonald, attorney for the newspaper association and the Bismarck Tribune, who has worked in media law for 40 years, said he could not recall a reporter facing trespassing charges while covering a story in the state.

"They have been threatened many times with arrest for trespass or interfering with police officers/fire personnel/emergency responders, but no actual arrest," McDonald said via email.

Cody Hall, spokesman for the Red Warrior Camp, also was charged with trespassing in the same incident. He spent the weekend in jail after he was picked up with expired tabs. He pleaded not guilty on Monday afternoon.

Morton County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Donnell Preskey said the two were charged "because those two our investigators were able to identify."

No one was arrested on the day of the incident, since the protesters dispersed when law enforcement arrived, according to Preskey.

She would not say whether law enforcement had identified other individuals who have not been charged. The case remains under investigation.

Goodman declined to be interviewed for this article. According to a statement on her show's website, she is working with lawyers from North Dakota and the Center for Constitutional Rights, a civil rights advocacy organization.

"This is clearly a violation of the First Amendment … an attempt to repress this important political movement by silencing media coverage," Baher Azmy, CCR's legal director, said in that statement.

Goodman was arrested at least once before on the job: at the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., according to news reports. Goodman sued law enforcement and settled for $100,000.

Lucy Dalglish, dean of the journalism school at the University of Maryland and former executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, said Goodman's case will revolve around whether she was singled out for charges.

"When it comes to laws of general applicability, like robbing a bank or trespass, journalists do not have a greater right to do it than anyone else," said Dalglish, who once worked for the Grand Forks Herald. "However, if they treated her differently or in a more negative way because she was reporting, then there is a First Amendment issue."

Dalglish said it is fairly common for reporters, and especially photographers, to face trespass charges. However, it is less common for them to face arrest after the fact.

Of Goodman's work potentially being used against her, Dalglish commented: "That's kind of slimy."
