Im needing a GPS unit for Lake Winnipeg, what do you guys prefer? I have a Marcum and I really don't need/want the GPS and ice fishing graph combo. Don't want to break the bank but I don't have any experience with GPS units.

I just used a lowrance h2o, as a map chips is rather worthless from looking at topo maps. Lake lacks structure in a big way. Used GPS mainly to find old spots that produced and to find the truck.

It's all crap. Just as well download Navionics app on your smartphone. BTW, that place is way more depth and location oriented than structure.

I have a Humminbird 386ci mounted to the dash of my sled. There are no contour maps of the lake available. Navionics is good for the river and Traverse Bay, but nothing for the lake. The bottom contour of the lake changes too much to have an accurate map according to Navionics.

Another vote for Navionics on your phone. Can download the map ahead of time so you don't need any reception at all to use it. It saves waypoints and you can make trails, ect. It's all we use for Winnipeg.

x3 on this. Used an H2OC handheld the first couple years. Smart phone and navionics last season and loved it. Just make sure to bring a battery pack charger thingy to be able to charge your phone if needed.

Lakemaster makes the best maps for North Dakota, unfortunately it has become an exclusive humminbird product. The navionic phone app is fine, it just gives me a headache when I zoom in. The contour lines seem to have no rhyme or reason, like looking at an abstract painting. It is like they cut and pasted several different maps, that were taken at different water elevations.

The Navionics contours are horrible for the lakes I fish in ND and MN. I just like it for saving waypoints and getting back to them ice fishing.

If you want the same maps as the old Lakemaster chips for Lowrance you will like the Lowrance Lake Insight HD chip.
