which one of you crazy mofos was out in a boat fishing the humps at the south end of the main bay on devils lake this morning.

Temp: 19 degrees

mark those in your fishing log. might not see anything like it again for 10 years... other than this weekend of course.... and next week of course. :;:huh damn weather looks like we could be fishing from a boat until the middle of the month. maybe later.

i will say that i was extremely jealous. wish i had the time and opportunity to take things a bit more hardcore than i do now. hope you pulled a lake record. anyone willing to take the boat out in temps below 20 degrees deserves some sort of reward. kudos

I wasn't me this time, ha ha. I have been on when the north end of Creel was froze almost to the Lakewood access though. It is a good time as long as the wind is non-existent. Kudos to those boys! I've been too busy pulling ice pigs.:;:rockit

A few years ago, (the year Mobridge ice tournament was canceled/not fished) my brother kept putting his little 12' boat in off shore and breaking the ice on a point and was nailing them in Mobridge. First time ever fishing out of a boat in December.

went out the weekend after that to the mouth of the moreau with kids in the toon and it was the best day of fishing i have ever had. hoodie on the water in january now thats some global warming stuff haha

Crazy may have been a poor choice of words. Definitely hardcore fishing folk though. Pee hole don't freeze up in weather like that?

I have been out a couple times in the spring when it's been in the 20s but not in the fall. Those are some hardcore fisherman.

I've had some of my best days on a riverbank when the minnow bucket is freezing over. The boat might be a whole different beast. I can almost feel my nose starting to run just thinking about it. Give by the opportunity I'd go in a second.

I also heard about the Van Hook bite. Does anyone know if Parshall Bay or Deep Water Bay accesses are still open? I cant take this 40's weather for the next 10 days? Boat is coming out of storage. Back in MN we would be pulling cranks at night till ice up every year. One year like this one it was into December. Monster eyes.

My boat is in the garage ready to go, I am sure I will be bird hunting this weekend though. My dog has already missed most of the bird season.
A friends dad fished in his boat 300 days the year before he died (10 years ago), and he was working full time that year too.

Boat is in the garage all the time. One winter many years ago fished the tailrace 28 times from the end of December to the first of April. Coldest day it was 0 with no wind and the sun shining.

When I was going to school in Detroit Lakes MN, I was ice fishing and it was 55 degrees out on the ice. this was in the winter of 2012 Jan. 5
It was crazy standing outside on the ice in Jan. with a sweatshirt on.
