Cross country skiing can be boring to watch, but once you have done it you have a whole new respect level for those athletes. Skate skiing in particular is well known as the most difficult aerobic activity out there. I do it and it kills you! Incredible workout.

Now, add in shooting to that and you have biathlon. You mountain hunters should appreciate it at least. Go like hell on skate skis, then have to stop, calm yourself, and shoot 5 targets clean from a standing position. Then, ski like hell again, and then shoot 5 more from a prone position. The targets are 4.5" for standing and 1.8" for prone, shot from 50 meters. Oh, and when you miss, you get to ski more.

I have incredible admiration and respect for the Nordic athletes. They are under the radar, no support, yet keep going. Womens team is loaded and should contend for medals. Diggins and Hart are from Minnesota as well.

I'll watch other stuff too, only thing I don't get into is figure skating. Way too much emphasis on that. And the freestyle crap doesn't do it for me, but whatever.

Speaking of the biathlon--I was watching some if it last night, and was thinking wtf....usa had NO women in the 5k pursuit final....only 2 men in the 12.5k pursuit....do we suck balls in this sport or what????? Whats wrong with the usa...smh...

Did anyone else cringe last night when they handed Shaun White the flag and he held it up for 2 seconds- then proceeded to let it drag on the ground as he walked off the hill?

We had an American man win a world championship last year. But, that was an anomaly. Think about what you need to do true biathlon- groomed ski trails with a proper shooting area. Not many places even have groomed ski trails. In SD I help groom the only groomed trails in the state. Wyoming has a world class facility in Casper Mountain and many of the mountain states have nice facilities, along with the NE part of the country. Just very localized efforts, very little on the national level. XC skiers and biathlon athletes get very little $$$ support, so it is a hard life.

Nordic skiing in general is growing in the US, but is nothing compared to Europe. They are nuts for it everywhere. And, it is dang near in their blood. I ski with a few from over there and they've done it since they could walk.

Women have a shot to win a medal for the first time in the XC events coming up. Men and the biathlon end of things have really no shot.

Anybody else not happy with NBC and their coverage? If it were up to a vote that network would not get another Olympic coverage, Jeez not covering the hockey game where it USA vs Canada but instead some Jimmy fucking Fallon bullshit, then on to Jonny Queer, talking fashion really no wonder that network went to shit

Lamoureux twins related to the Lamoureau that played for UND years ago. LGS!!

Someone has to break that 20 year stranglehold Canada has on gold over those years.

Their father is a Canadian hockey player that played for UND in the '80s. He married a GF girl and stayed to live in GF. They had 5 kids that all played college hockey. When the twins were awarded their SIOUX awards in 2014 I was there. They had won the silver in Sochi earlier in the year and said that it was their intent to win a gold and bring it back to UND. Now they have done that and UND doesn't have a women's hockey program. Great for the twins, sad for the UND women that can't play college hockey any more.

Didn't remember when I wrote this, but the twins won silver in Vancouver in 2010 against the Canucks also.

ha ha ha - this neg rep made me smile

is Johnny Weir the queer super flamer that NBC held up as some sort of status symbol on the Olympics coverage last few mornings?

Just because you have a boner for Johnny Weir doesn’t mean you need to lash out. You’ll be much happier out of the closet

If that guy is on i turn the channel. My kid asked why there was a clown on the tv when he walked through the room in passing. That made me laugh

Did ya'll hear that Sally Field is working to be a match maker for her son? Apparently she is looking for someone to help her son make brownies.

I didn't see that coming after a poor start. Last time they imploaded after being down and this year was the exact opposite. They have been at the top during the worlds but keeping it up at the Olympics is a great feat!
