I fish, don't hunt much. If I had a lake in my backyard I think I could fish everyday and never tire of it. I have loved fishing since I was a wee little boy. My young adult aged son does not enjoy fishing as much as I do. My older brother loves to hunt. He moved to WY just so he could hunt more. What is it about fishing and hunting that makes some of us want to go all the time and can't get enough? And why do other people just not care about it at all?

It tastes good

This is the main reason. I think they are both great hobbies. I can't sit my ass on a chair all day and watch TV but I can sit in a chair and fish or hunt all day. I like the fresh air. Even days I stay at home I'm outside most of it.

I hunt and fish because I like the hunt. Satisfaction for me is finding game or fish on my own.

Hunting and Fishing doesn't give out trophies for participation. You either do it right or you go home empty handed. If you make a mistake, the critter gets away or the fish don't bite. No amount of crying, whining, or complaining makes a DAMN BIT OF DIFFERENCE to the critters and no judge, govt. official, or president can mandate the critters lower their survival standards and become more tolerant or considerate of the crappy hunters or fishermen so everyone can feel equal. The critters make the rules and set the standards and success requires one to meet or exceed these standards. That's why I LOVE to hunt and fish.

For me it started out as a lifestyle and the hope that today could be THE day that I always dreamed about. the more I go the better I want to do. it becomes a challenge for me with goals for everything, always trying to do better and get more trophies. But the best reason to go hunting or fishing is two things. One is being with your best friend, dad, brother or grandfather I'm sure you guys are like me and alot of your best memories with them are when you were hunting or fishing. The second part is just being out in nature and getting away, beautiful evening catching walleye, the sunrise from the cattails duck hunting, or the sunset out deer hunting, they all have a way of making you forget everything and be at piece for a few minutes.

Hunting and fishing is relaxing along with the the feeling of excitement and anticipation of not knowing what may happen at any given moment. Could be the trophy fish you've been waiting for or that big buck you've seen only in your dreams. I guess you could say its climactic in its own special way that nothing else compares to.

Memories
Enjoy eating game and fish but could live without it. Most fish go back in lake. Usually fish alone unless I have a "sure thing" haha.
Than will take my dad in his upper 80's. One afternoon took him out for walleyes punched holes, set up the tent, got heat going, set his depth for bobbers. O crap there's only about 3' of water under the the 2.5' of ice. Was told there are fish everywhere, let's fish. Replied under my breath sure northerns. Fished for a half hour and they hit, most eyes were 20"+. Finally dads drag was screaming, has to be a stikn snake the fight pursues finally the head breaks the water. It's a walleye 25.5". Couple quick pics back down to catch another day. I'm pumped. My turn, had spent most of the time helping him get fish up and rebaiting him. He says your mom is probably waiting we should get going. Biggest walleye he had ever caught multiple over 20" and wants to go home. Wouldn't trade that afternoon for anything.
I do it for the memories.

I fish for lots of reasons...

... those time you see something strange, unusual, or hard to understand...

... that moment when a splash of orange pops up in a wide white wilderness ...

... the great taste of well cared for fish ...

... trying something new and different ...

... never knowing when something amazing might come along ...

... and many others reasons, lot of which would be impossible to explain to most (but not all) women ...
