Have a friend that mentioned something a while back. Catfish from the Garrison tailrace that eat smelt are very fishy tasting. After thinking about it, I realized he had a point. Worst tasting cats I have ever had are from the tailrace. Normally I like them from other bodies of water if taken care of and am picky about preparation of any fish I eat. The walleyes, etc from the tailrace/river, I like.

We caught about everything that swam in Sweetbriar one year when the kids were young (late 80's). Wife kept asking me why i tossed the bass back in the water. So i made her eat one. Was NOT ever questioned on that one again.

From kampeska over East and Oahe I have fried up lots of small mouth seems mixed in with walleye no one has ever known the difference. That is including some walleye snobs that won't eat fish that has been froze or even been in the fridge for mote than a few days.

An alien hoofed sum b got me one of those a few summers back. First and (so far) last fish I've smoked. No brine, just alotta smoke. Was damn good. Can only imagine if I applied the kdm methodology of fish smokin'. I will try it a gain this summer. Mark my words msa....mark. my. words...

I still think that if you get them early in the year, one of the best smoked fish there is. Wish I could remember the brine recipe... everyone thinks I'm crazy when I tell them smoked carp is damn good....

Fish sandwich from most any fast food joint! There probably would be more fisherpersons in this world if they knew what real fish is supposed to taste like! After eating a fast food fish sandwich, they probably wonder what all the hoopla is of going out to catch and eat fish.;:;barf

My rule is to avoid any fish a southerner says is delicious (i.e. catfish, bass, tilapia, etc.)

My theory is they're used to eating awful stuff, so they have nothing better to compare it to.

I wish i wouldve saved that picture. Alien hooves was the best description of them. Built for speed and agility i imagine.

Fish that people say are good, that I can't eat, are white bass. Can't get myself to gobble them.

Fried goldeye is the worst though. Starving, as in "eat my belt" starving, and I still wouldn't eat them.

Truthfully, I even probably throw back half of the walleyes I catch. Sometimes even because they're too big!!

I'm not a fan of crappies either. Kept telling myself they are yummy but that's just not true. Think I'm gonna have to just start releasing them all.

I would put crappies up there with best eating fish. In reality i have had alot of different fish and when deep fried unless it is a big piece of shit with shitty breading it all tastes the same with hot sauce on it.

I think they're mushy. Do you do anything special? I've heard keeping them on ice right up til the moment you bread/batter them for frying but I guess I've never tried it.

The crappies and "large sunfish" distaste comments have me puzzled. I guess maybe sunfish and bluegills are different?

I've never had a bad crappie.

Then again I HAVE had bad bluegill from a single lake in SD that tasted like slough. Really strong slough. SO bad....
