My great grandparents settled the McClusky area - on my mom's side. On Dad's side it was French Canadiens in Warren/Argyle MN area. I think same generation... great grandparent stuff.

I forget the year Grandpa first came to North Dakota, but after a few years he went back to Minnesota, got Grandma and homesteader south of Devils Lake in the 1870's (my older brother knows this stuff better than me). Then he bought a second homestead from a French trapper. General Sully trained his soldiers just a couple miles from that trappers homestead.

Davey have you ever did a genealogy study on your family?

Not me but my Brother in Law is big into genealogy. Not enough Indian to get free cheese and not enough Norwegian/Swede cross to acquire a taste for Lutefisk And not enough nigger to play the race card. I am too stubborn to mow around one of those centennial farm signs. That's all I know.

On my fathers side i am Third Gen 2nd to be born here on Gramps side, he came over in 1908 from Holland Born in 1891 and came directly to ND to settle in Oliver Co. and am 5th gen on my grams side they settled along the Knife river by Fayette which was west of Manning north of Dickinson.
On my moms side i am 3rd gen born here on grams side and not sure of gramps side but think about the same.
Either way i am a west river native from both sides.
I had to cross the river to find my wife to avoid being inter related, unfortunately she still has relates from my home area be-it distant cousins, guess i needed to head another county east to get away from nepotism lol.

How did this all translate into "Fighting Hawks" except apathy and lack of pride?

2nd generation on my Mom's side. Her family left Austria when Hitler was gaining power. I'm 5th on my Dad's side.

If the "red" man didn't want a sports team there were plenty "white eyes" to moniker a college.
