Not where I'd like to be
I've reviewed the various air rifle threads on here, but they all seem to be geared toward adults.
I'd like to get my 7 year old an air rifle. I'd like something more powerfull than the old multi-pump bb guns, but don't want he hassle of the PCP / CO2 powered types.
I'm ok with a break-barrel as I'd be cocking it for him. The main issue is getting it to fit him. He's a standard sized 7 year old, but most seem to have an adult-sized length of pull.

Thoughts?

I received a Crossman .22 pump pellet rifle for my 10th birthday from my folks. Here it is 58 years later, and I'm still using it (17 cottontails this summer)! It is old, but still has enuf power to drive a pellet thru a 1" soft pine board. Great memories...and I can't imagine how many pellets that little gun has shot.

I tend to agree. However, discharging a "firearm" within city limits will get you in trouble.
I want to shoot in my back yard.

Cut the stock down.

I thought about that, but I'd like a system that can grow with him. An AR-style adjustable stock seems ideal, but I'm not seeing much of that.

Ruger Explorer? .177 spring piston rifle, break barrel. I saw one a few weeks ago and held it. Nice size, and weight, but seems like if taken care of it could last for a while. Not really sure how it might fit though, I think it was just over 3 feet long.

30-378 weatherby with a brake.

My brother bought the gamo. Real good shooter for my nephew. He was 7 when he started shooting it.

I see a few references to "a Gamo" or "the Gamo", but they have like 47 different models. I appreciate the repiles, but specifics are nice.

My brother is a whisper. But take a look at all models and pull your pants up and make your own decision.

Looked at my response and that downigger guy is an a**hole.

Not what i was trying to say. I think gamo is "top of the line" from when my brother was looking. Take a look at the models and see what will fit for your family.

Not sure what the model is but my dad has a Beeman that has an adjustable air spring. Might be nice for a youngster so you can set it light so it doesn't break so hard at first and air it up as they get older. His is a 20 cal and super accurate. The only thing is that I'm pretty sure it's a fairly large gun.

That whisper recon g2 is a good one...got one for my 7 year old last year and he loves it. Looks cool, shoots pretty straight and the daisy red-rider he got the year before doesn't come out much any more. Stock seemed to be a bit smaller on that one so it fits shorter arms well, and it is light. I thought the green-dot that came with his was junk, so we don't use that, but fun gun. Hope it works out well for your son.

Depending on what town you live in, you can get in a lot of trouble for even shooting a pellet gun in town, or a blow gun, or a sling shot, or a bow.... Better check your regulations
