This ^^^

It should be mandatory that the older generation should have to take a driving/road aptitude test at a certain age.. Seen quite a few near misses on the road..

I understand your point but should you be driving at night if you go that blind with high beams, on a 4 Lane hwy with median, one doesn't need to turn high beams off, from what I was told by the hwy patrol
This! Stay the hell off the road or let somebody else drive. You are a threat to everyone else.

I also have astigmatism in my left eye. bright lights have no adverse effect due to that. So I would guess that isn't the problem.

I drive with my high beams on on split highways. Im not gonna dim my lights and endanger myself and passengers just so people in the other lane feel better. Many times if you do that, you are going to have to just drive with them dim all the time, and at 80mph in the dark, I feel thats very hazardous. I have no problem dimming when I come up behind someone or pass someone on a 2 lane road tho. From the research I have done, it seems that HID headlights still outperform LED headlights, at least when it comes to distance penetration.

Oddly enough the people that are usually driving well under the speed limit are usually the older generation. They rank right up there with the jack wagon cruising along in the passing lane about half a mile per hour faster than the car on the right. Get outta my dam way ya turd.

I am 68 and use cruise so I don't go over the speed limit. My problem is passing a truck and I am already going the speed limit or a mile or two over. Then some guy rides my bumper trying to force me to go faster. If I am at the speed limit I am not going to break the speed limit to keep this jerk happy. One day I had this van pull up next to me at the rear of a truck. Next thing I know he is pulling right into me. Forced me to the shoulder while braking. I followed him and he was doing 87 mph. I called law enforcement. They set up a speed trap at Steel, ND. When I came along I stopped and gave the officer my identification as he was talking to them and informed them I was the guy they forced to the side of the road. Four guys in business suites in a minivan.

Edit: I will agree with those under the speed limit. I'll bet you have had this happen. Two trucks ten miles under the speed limit, one trying to pass the other. After maybe ten miles or more the guy passing gives up and drifts back. How bad did he really need to pass? If they can't pass in a coupe of miles how big a brain does it take to give it up? I suspect some of these guys think it's funny.

Nothing pisses me off worse than people parking their asses in the passing lane driving the speed limit or one or two over. You have no business in the passing lane unless your passing. And that doesn't mean take ten miles to pass. If you can't get it done in a mile back the hell up and get back in the slow lane and let others by and by all means try it again. In some states you'll get a heft fine for that. Illinois hammers the shit out of you for that.

It ain't a titty sprinkling "passing lane"!

By ND law, 4 lane highways are exactly that, 4 lanes for the purpose of driving. It always cracks me up when I hear about a "passing lane".

I also hear from people who complain that someone in the non-passing lane doesn't pull over into the passing lane to allow someone sitting at a stop sign to be able to get onto the busy 4-lane roadway from a popular entrance point (thinking south of Bismarck coming around the airport as a good example).

That being said, there is no legislating common courtesy. Let people get around ya, it won't do the blood pressure any good for those in the left lane running neck and neck with someone in the right lane or those they have trapped behind them.

As a side note, I find it interesting that the reviews on new headlights are so dismal. I have been very happy with the lighting system on both my 09 F250 and 15 4-Runner. Both give me plenty of light to see what I need to see at posted highway speeds.

As far as lights on bright or dim on an interstate? Indeed, the law doesn't require dimming on split highways like the interstate or the 4 lane portions of 83, 85, 2, etc. However, I like to dim my lights when going around sweeping corners and vehicles on the other side are in my sights, so to speak. Just seems the right thing to do.

The road to my house is 35mph, and I like to drive at least the limit if not a couple over. Boils my blood when some character drives 25 or less thinking that is the limit. The signs are posted in 2 spots along the way stating 35, why do people do this to me...arggg;:;banghead

High beams are always to be dimmed when approaching oncoming vehicles, if you are over driving your cars light ability than slow down, it is not my fault you cant see without your high beams, nor should I be the one blinded by them.

Hey - speaking of dims/brights...

how do your "auto-dimming" headlights work for you fellers? My RAM's seem pretty intelligent - I watch the system like a hawk trying to catch it screwing up but haven't been able to yet.

I believe a while back somebody quoted state law stating it is a passing lane. Like I said in many states they actually have signage to that effect along the road and will give you a heft fine backing traffic up.

Ill cruise in the 'passing lane' when Im on a highway where the 'driving lane' is very rough/bumpy. This seems to be the case more in MN than in ND tho.... Some really bad roads around the twin cities area.

So you're the one that blocks up the entire interstate to pass a truck. If you're gonna pass, pass, or just follow that truck. Don't set in the passing lane for 5 minutes inching your way by him. THAT'S DANGEROUS!!

I will follow a truck only doing a couple miles an hour less than myself. If it's five mph I'm going to pass, but I'm not going to get a speeding ticket doing it. If your behind and don't like that, to bad. I hope the highway patrol gets people that don't like that on radar. I am legal, they are not. Your not allowed extra miles per hour to pass.

Have it your way, but someone all ready tried to run you off the road. You think your safer inching your way around a truck, blocking free flowing traffic, so be it. All you have to do is hit the accelerator a little bit, for just a couple of seconds while keeping your cruise on, and you can cut the passing time significantly. Doubt if you'll get a ticket, especially if the guys behind you fly by you once you pull over.

If you're pulling a boat/camper and can't make it around quickly, that's a different story, but those guys need to kick it in the ass a little too when passing, if they can.

the only time i dim on divided highways is when passing or maybe on a curve if i know they are shining directly at the person across the median. dimming doing 75 MPH places you in way more danger than not dimming could ever possibly place someone on the other side of the median.

you won't get a ticket for going a few miles over the speed limit. imho, traveling side by side with someone for extended periods of time doing 75 mph and 74 mph is also dangerous. especially, at night.

Not likely you are going to get nailed passing a truck as long as you don't speed too far from the truck. The police radar tends to lock on the largest target so it's going to be hard for him to get a lock on you if you slow down right away after passing. FYI

Common courtesy/sense for some is just hard to swallow. The technicality of the law is on their side, so they can sit up high on their horse, in their eyes. But when they run across another jerk, who is a little crazy, that's when the shit hits the fan.

In the event they needed a witness. Guys like that are going to kill someone.

I know a judge will throw out anything less than five mph over the speed limit so I feel safe at 79 mph, and I may push that another couple miles per hour, but that's it. I was doing at least 10 mph faster than the truck when that van come ripping up behind and pulled into me. No poking a!ong. Don't read in things that didn't happen. Breaking the speed limit doesn't make anyone cool, it makes them thoughtless and dangerous. If I am passing at 80 mph you don't need to be going faster.

What I enjoy is catching up to an individual from a few miles back who forces me to speed to get around them.

Sorry Allen, (this may be the first time I've disagreed with you :() it may be law here but it's annoying, dangerous and bad driving etiquette. It's uncool to approach on-coming with high beams. It's distracting and creates dangerous glare.

If your lows are aimed properly, you have plenty reactionary gap driving at legal highway speed. I wonder how many of these passing lane high beamers are also those refusing to run headlights in the rain?...Don't take these practices into other states or countries unless you want to make a goodly donation to the jurisdiction.
